PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF standout student-athletes Berta Bonardi and Ester Rizzetto were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II At-Large Teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.

Rizzetto was voted to the Second Team and Bonardi on the Third Team. They duo represent the 18th and 19th selections from UWF and this marks the seventh-consecutive year at least one Argonaut has received the prestigious honor.

Rizzetto recently completed her sophomore season by being named the NSISC Swimming Performer of the Year and garnering six All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. She was the high point swimming scorer at the NSISC Championships with 77 points which included titles in the 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and a second in the 200 Free. She also swam the anchor leg of the gold medal winning 200 Free Relay.

The Kriftel, Germany native continued her strong swimming at the national meet three weeks later with an All-America showing of eighth place in the 200 IM and a 12th place effort in the 50 free. She helped the 200 Medley Relay touch 12th overall and had qualified for the consolation final in the 100 Butterfly prior to the cancellation of the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has a 4.00 grade point average as a Political Science major.

Rizzetto is the third member of the UWF swimming & diving program to earn the award, joining Monica Amaral (2016-17) and Madeline Pitt (2017-18), who were each two-time Academic All-Americans.

Bonardi is a 2-time ITA Division II National Champion in singles and was previously named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large team. The junior, who is majoring in exercise science with a 3.85 GPA, was also named as a 2020 ITA All-American in singles after going 14-2 in singles play during the fall and spring seasons, while holding the distinction of being the top-ranked D2 singles player in the nation. As a sophomore, the Buenos Aires, Argentina native went 18-1 in singles and 14-2 in doubles while being named All-America and a finalist for the DII Honda Athlete of the Year.

She is just the second women's tennis student-athlete to garner the award following Fernanda Amaral doing so in both 2014 and 2015.

To be eligible, students have to carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, be an important starter or reserve who has competed in at least 50 percent of that season's games and spent at least one calendar year at their current institution.

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
