Danielle Norquest posted 27 points and 13 rebounds as UWF shot 51 percent to defeat No. 18 Lee, 71-61, giving head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton her 200th career victory on Saturday.
UWF (3-4, 3-4 Gulf South) committed a season-low 14 turnovers and had double-digit steals for the second-consecutive game, swiping 10 from the Lady Flames. The Argos had 13 points off 16 Lee turnovers.
Norquest took over in the final quarter, finishing with 12 points and three boards, including 4-of-5 on free throws down the stretch. She also had a career-high five steals for the second-straight day.
Fanny Hulmi made two 3-pointers on her way to a season-high 16 points and three assists.
UWF made double-digit 3-pointers for the third time in four games, setting a season-high 40 percent on 10-of-25. Norquest made three while Hulmi and
Gabby Brown added two apiece.
Yelton now has a 200-182 record in her 14th season as a college head coach. She has 143 in nine seasons at UWF.
The teams went into the half tied at 33 when UWF closed the stanza on a 10-3 run. They carried the momentum through the third quarter and into the fourth, extending the run to 37-9 over a 16-minute stretch for a 60-39 lead with 7:10 to play. The Lady Flames were held to a season-low six points in the third quarter.
Lee battled back in the final seven minutes and cut the lead to six twice but UWF did enough at the line to maintain a 2-to-3 possession game.
Haley Schubert had 20 points on 6-of-19 shooting to lead Lee (6-3, 6-3). The Lady Flames shot 40 percent overall and were 6-of-20 from outside.
UWF will return to play next weekend with a pair of road contests at Shorter (1-9) on Friday and Saturday at the Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Ga.
