West Florida Set for Two More Matches from the Field House

Argonauts will be up against conference foes Mississippi College and West Alabama tonight and tomorrow

PENSACOLA, Fla. – After a quick midweek win against Spring Hill on Tuesday, the University of West Florida Volleyball team will be back in action tonight and tomorrow taking on conference opponents Mississippi College and West Alabama from the UWF Field House.

Ranked No. 15 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, the now 15-1 Argonauts are looking to remain unbeaten in conference play this season after a perfect 3-0 start to their conference campaign.

Tonight's match will also be Family Night at the Field House where for $20 fans can purchase four tickets to the match, four hotdogs, and four soft drinks in what will be a night full of fun and great volleyball action.

About West Florida: Now having won ten consecutive matches, the Argonauts will look to keep their impressive streak alive this weekend when they take on two more tough conference opponents.
Playing some really great offense to this point in the season, West Florida has utilized a great mix of experienced players and newcomers to get the job done so far this season.

Veresia Yon has been nearly unstoppable for the Argonauts, averaging 3.29 kills per set this season as well as 4.31 points per set which is second best in the conference. Hitting at a very efficient mark as well, Yon is currently hitting .454 on the season which is top in the conference and sixth in the nation.

Alex Oliver has been another player who has stepped up in recent weeks for West Florida. The Freshman Outside has recorded double-digit kills in four of her last five matches including double-doubles in two of the five matches.

As one of the best blocking teams in college volleyball, the Argonauts are never an easy opponent to go up against. Ranking second in the nation in blocks per set, second in total blocks, and twelfth in opponent hitting percentage, West Florida gives opposing hitters fits on a nightly basis.

About Mississippi College: With a 3-5 record to open up the season including a 1-2 mark in conference play, the Choctaws will look to respond in a big way on Friday.

Led offensively by their Junior outside, Kendall Platt, Mississippi College comes into the match averaging 12.32 kills per set so far on the season which is good for third best in the conference. Hitting quite efficiently as well, the Choctaws are currently sixth in the GSC in hitting percentage with a .181 mark on the year.

Erin Davis has held down libero duties for the Choctaws so far this season, appearing in all but one set for Mississippi College on the season. She enters tonight's matchup just one dig short of 100 on the season and with an average of 3.00 digs per set on the season.

About West Alabama: Winless in all nine matches to start their season, the Tigers have taken a set in all but three matches this season but have been unable to take a match.

On the offensive side, West Alabama has had a difficult time this season generating offense with only one player averaging over two kills per set so far on the season. Nathalia Medeiros has been one of the few bright spots this season for the Tigers recording double-digit kills in all but three matches this season.

Defensively, MacKenzie Wells has played a big role for the Tigers as their libero racking up double-digit digs in every match this season including a season high 21 digs against Mississippi College last week.

Schedule for the Weekend: Action is set to begin at 6 pm (CST) on Friday against Mississippi College here at the Field House. This again will be Family Night at the Field House so bring your whole family to cheer on the Argonauts.

On Saturday, play against West Alabama will begin at 1 pm (CST) in what will be West Florida's last weekend home match until the last weekend in October.
