The UWF women's soccer team hosted Union University at the UWF Soccer Complex on Oct. 1, 2021. The Argos surged past the Bulldogs 3-1 to improve to 5-1-1 on the 2021 season.

West Florida Completes Shutout over Mississippi College

West Florida is currently seventh in conference standings while Mississippi College is second

Box Score CLINTON, Miss- After a dominant showing against Mississippi College, the Argos secured a 3-0 win over the Lady Choctaw. The team improved their overall record to 10-2-2 in 6-2-2 in Gulf South Conference action heading into the final week of the regular competition.
 
In the 17TH minute Brianna Pope scored an unassisted goal in the lower right corner of the goal to give the Argos the 1-0 lead. The momentum continued to swing in the Argos favor during the first half with UWF outshooting MC 6-2 in the first half with a total of 3 corner kicks.
 
In the 33rd minute of the match defender Kileigh Whited scored her first goal of the season with a shot right through the center of the goal. The shot came after a UWF corner kick where the ball was initially deflected then pushed out to defender Bailey Erwig, who sent the ball into a group of Argos where Whited would take the shot and score.
 
During the second half of the match Mississippi College got off to a quick start with high energy pressing down the field early. However, the West Florida defense proved to be a tough task for the Lady Choctaw. Across the field, all 11 Argos played tough defense throughout the match taking the ball away from the Lady Choctaw.
 
West Florida continued to outshoot the Lady Choctaw 6-2, with six corner kicks in the second half. Mississippi College had one corner kick during the second half of the match.
 
In the final minute of the game Brianna Pope finished how she started and scored another unassisted goal. The goal came after Mississippi College, all made their way down the field, leaving the goal wide open with their keeper coming out and Pope beating them back down the field.
 
Overall UWF showed dominance throughout the match from beginning to end with three goals and a shutout over Mississippi College, who averaged 2.86 goals per game and 21.2 shots per game. For the fourth straight match the West Florida defense was able to limit an opponent to a season low shot.
 
UWF outshot MC 12-4 overall, with 8 shots being on goal and having nine corner kicks, compared to Mississippi Colleges three.
 
Next up the University of West Florida Women's Soccer team will play one more regular season game on the road against Spring Hill College. The match is set to take place on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 4:30 P.M, in Mobile, Ala.
 
In conference standings UWF is currently still in the running to make an appearance in the Gulf South Conference Championship. The Argos currently have 20 conference points after today's win and are in seventh place in conference standings.
 
Lee, Mississippi College, Delta State and Christian Brothers have already secured berths in the GSC championship, being in first through fourth place in conference standings respectively. The final four teams in spots five through eight are Valdosta State, West Georgia, West Florida and West Alabama respectively.
