West Florida Heads to Huntsville for Midweek Battle Against the Chargers

Both teams will enter Tuesday’s matchup unbeaten in conference play

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Coming off of another 3-0 stretch of matches this past week, the No. 15 ranked University of West Florida Volleyball team will be back in action on Tuesday night against a very talented Alabama Huntsville squad from Kelly Court in Huntsville, Alabama.

In what will be a battle of two unbeatens within the Gulf South Conference, Tuesday's matchup between the Argonauts and Chargers is sure to be one of the premier matches of the season within the conference.

About West Florida: Now 17-1 on the season, including a 5-0 mark in conference play, the Argonauts are off to one of their best starts in program history. Since being ranked No. 50 in the nation to start the season, West Florida has steadily climbed up the AVCA Coaches Poll each week to now be ranked No. 15 in the Sep. 27 AVCA Coaches Poll.

Backed by one of the top offenses in the nation, West Florida will attack their opponents from every position on the court and have multiple players who can step up for them on a nightly basis.

Middle blocker Veresia Yon has stepped up big for the Argonauts over the past few weeks of play leading the team in many offensive and defensive categories. Averaging 3.25 kills per set, 4.25 points per set, and 1.49 blocks per set, Yon has showcased her dominance all season long.

Right Side Tyler Fezzey had one of her best weeks of the season this past week, leading the team in kills per set including a 16 kill outing against Mississippi College this past Friday. On the season, Fezzey ranks second on the team in points and kills and ranks in the top ten in the conference for each category as well.

Blocking has been another key factor in the Argonauts success this season as they currently rank second in the nation in blocks per set as well as total team blocks while limiting their opponents to a .104 hitting percentage on the season.

Nationally, West Florida ranks in the top ten in assists per set, blocks per set, hitting percentage, kills per set, opponent hitting percentage, total team assists, team kills, and team total blocks.

About Alabama Huntsville: The Chargers enter Tuesday's meeting with a 10-4 record including a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. Looking for a statement win on their season; the Chargers carry the second-longest win streak in the conference at seven matches just behind West Florida's 12 match win streak.

Led offensively by junior outside Molly Presnell, the Chargers run a very balanced offense that capitalizes on the opportunities created by their great defense.

Currently ranking either first or second in the conference in digs, opponent service aces, blocks, and opponent hitting percentage, nothing comes easy for teams taking on Alabama Huntsville.

Zharia Hubbard paces that Chargers with 50 blocks on the season, while collectively they currently have five players with 20 or more blocks on the season for a grand total of 107 total team blocks.
