Argonauts Win in Overtime against AUM

Bernardo Torres scores the winning goal

Montgomery, Ala.- West Florida men's soccer traveled to play Auburn Montgomery this evening to play a tough AUM Warhawks team.

In the first forty-five minutes of play, both teams had great offensive drives, but couldn't convert. AUM held majority possession to keep the Argos on their toes defensively. The Warhawks had a total of six shots in the first half while the Argos only had two shots. West Florida defenders, Elijah Howe and Jack Patching along with goalkeeper, Jihad Gomes helped keep the Warhawks out of the net. Offensive drives were led by midfielders, Kainan Dos Santos and Ed Chappe. The Argos and Warhawks went into halftime with the score still tied at zero.

The second half served as a majority West Florida possession with good looks at the net. Ed Chappe, Kainan Dos Santos, and Elijah Howe had two shots apiece. The Argos had seven shots while the Warhawks had only three shots on the half. During the second half, the Argos had a total of six corner kicks to AUM's zero. At the end of regulation, the score still remained at zero, which led the game to go into overtime.

In the 93rd minute, the Argos were on the offensive drive and Eduardo Quierzo kicked it to Bernardo Torres, who was one-on-one against a Warhawk defender. Torres kicked it while hurdling over the AUM goalkeeper to score the game winning goal. This improves their record to 4-1-2 for the season.
