UWF Opens 42nd Season This Weekend with Benedict, PBA

The Argonauts will head to Valdosta, Georgia for two neutral-site contests

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team opens the 2021-22 season with a pair of neutral-site games at The Complex in Valdosta, Georgia this weekend. On Friday, the Argonauts will face Benedict at 4 p.m. EST and on Saturday, they will take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m. EST.
 
UWF WBB HISTORY 101
UWF has 588 victories in 41 previous seasons of women's basketball, along with seven 20-win seasons … The Argonauts have six NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2017 South Region Championship and Elite Eight appearance … UWF has four Gulf South Conference regular-season titles and one GCS Tournament crown.
 
YEAR 10 FOR COACH SLY
Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her tenth season at UWF and enters the weekend with a 149-106 record … Yelton is 206-190 in 14 years as a college head coach … She has led the Argos to four NCAA Regionals and eight GSC Tournaments.
 
UWF'S LAST TIME OUT
UWF fell to No. 16 Florida State, 91-47, in an exhibition at the Tucker Center in Tallahassee … UWF took the fight to the Seminoles, leading 17-16 after the first quarter and trailing by just seven at the half … Jaclyn Jarnot led UWF with 13 points, while Charlotte Ellmore and Fanny Hulmi added nine each ... Maddie Griffon had six points, five assists and three steals from her point guard spot.
