Women's Hoops To Play Two Games in Pensacola This Weekend

UWF will play at Pensacola Christian on Friday before hosting Spring Hill on Sunday

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The UWF women's basketball team will play a pair of games in Pensacola this weekend. The Argonauts will be at Pensacola Christian for the first time in program history on Friday before facing Spring Hill in the home opener at the UWF Field House on Sunday evening.

Friday's game at PCC will be video streamed for free but live stats will not be available. Admission for the game at the Arlin R. Horton Sports Center is $5.

UWF is 1-1 after splitting a pair of games at the South Region Crossover in Valdosta, Ga. last weekend. The Argos fell to Benedict, 80-74, and defeated Palm Beach Atlantic, 79-70. UWF averaged 76.1 points on 42.1 pct. shooting while making 14 3-pointers combined in the two games.

Freshman forward Zoe Piller earned Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week with 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. Senior transfer Jaclyn Jarnot posted 16.0 points and 8.5 boards. Junior point guard Maddie Griffon averaged 13.5 ppg and senior guard Charlotte Ellmore had 10.5 ppg and 4.0 assists per game with an 8-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The win over PBA was the 150th for head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton in her career.

The Eagles are 4-1 on the year and have won four-straight. Senior guard Lauren Alvarez averaged 19.4 points, 17.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists in five contests. The senior from Jacksonville has three games of 20 points or more and four double-doubles.

UWF won the only previous meeting, 68-45, in 2019 at the UWF Field House on Education Day.

SHC is 0-3 on the young season and has also dropped a pair of exhibition contests to Division I programs. The Badgers averaged 46 points per game on 33.3 pct. shooting. Sophomore guard Tyashia Bostick paces the team with 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. She has gone for 20 points and 23 in the last two games against Rollins and Mobile.

In the series with the Badgers which dates back to 2000, UWF holds a 14-2 lead but the teams have split the last four meetings.
