UWF Volleyball Advances to GSC Championship Match with Win Over Mississippi College

Sixth straight season in which the Argonauts have advanced to the championship match

PENSACOLA, Fla. – In their first match of the 2021 GSC Championship Tournament, the University of West Florida Volleyball team secured their third win over Mississippi College this season advancing them to tomorrow's Gulf South Conference Championship match against Montevallo.

Now 32-1 on the season, the top seeded Argonauts jumped out to an early two set lead over the Choctaws before finally securing the victory in the fourth set in decisive manner.

Junior outside hitter Madi Cooler was one of the leaders today on offense leading the team with 15 kills in the match. In addition to her success offensively, Cooler also had 17 service receptions in the match and did not commit one error keeping the Choctaws from long service runs all match.

Tyler Fezzey also filled out the stat sheet today finishing with the second most kills on the team finishing with 10 total in the match. The graduate right side also finished with the third highest hitting percentage on the team hitting .214 over the four sets.

Arguably the Argonauts top all around player tonight was setter Taylor Vaneekeren who dished out 33 assists, picked up four kills, and led the team with 19 digs. Vaneekeren was also efficient in the service game picking two aces which tied a match best.

With the win West Florida now advances to the GSC Championship match tomorrow to take on the No. 6 seeded Montevallo Falcons. This match will mark the sixth straight season in which the Argonauts have advanced to this final day of play as they will try to win their fourth consecutive GSC title.  

First serve tomorrow will be at noon (CST) at the UWF Field House right here in Pensacola, Florida. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the team as they look to add more hardware to the trophy case.
