Men's Soccer Falls Short to Chowan after Thirteen Rounds of PK's

Chowan outshot the Argos 13-11

Pensacola, Fla.- The Argos suffer a heart-breaking loss after double overtime and thirteen rounds of penalty kicks.
West Florida's final record is 12-3-4. Chowan will advance to play Palm Beach Atlantic in the third round of playoffs.

In the first half, the Argos had the first shot of the game by Kainan Dos Santos in the 7th minute and another shot by Austin Marshick in the 9th minute. 

The Hawks had an opportunity to score in the 12th minute by having three different shots in less than a minute. Two of those shots came from London Williams. Both of those shots were saved by the UWF goalkeeper Jihad Gomes. The other shot came from Erik Ruiz, who's shot went just shy of the goalpost.

The Argos had a couple good looks at the net in the first half with shots by leading scorers Keegan Ancelin and Kainan Dos Santos.

Both teams had seven shots each in the first half. The Hawks had four corner kicks while the Argos had three corners.

At the half, both teams went into the locker room tied at zero.

In the second half, the Argos came out with lots energy and momentum offensively. The Argos took the lead in 62nd minute after the Chowan goalkeeper missed the ball on a back pass by a Chowan defender.

The Hawks tied up the game in the 69th minute after a shot in the box by Harri Lovett.

The score remained 1-1 after regulation and into overtime. Chowan outshot the Argos 13-11. 

Both teams leaned on their defense to keep their team in the game. The score remains 1-1 after double overtime, this leads the game into penalty kicks. West Florida had good looks at the net, but they couldn't convert.

In total, there were thirteen rounds of penalty kicks. In the 13th round, Jack Patching has a beautiful shot, but it was saved by the Chowan goalkeeper. This allowed for the Hawks to advance to the next round of NCAA playoffs.

The Argos have had a great run this season and have made history by winning another GSC Championship. This was their first GSC Championship since 2013.
