UWF Hosts William Carey Sunday In Final GSC Tune Up

The Argos will host the Crusaders Sunday and travel to West Georgia Wednesday

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team will return to play on Sunday, riding a 3-game win streak and a week of rest when it plays host to William Carey. Tip-off at the UWF Field House is 5 p.m. The game will follow the UWF men's game against Georgia College which begins at 3 p.m.
 
ABOUT UWF
UWF is 3-1 on the young season with a home win, a road win and two neutral-site wins … The Argonauts average 72 points per game on 42 percent shooting … UWF has done an exceptional job on defense, holding the four opponents to 62.3 ppg on 36 percent shooting … The Argos also have a plus-11.5 rebounding margin … Three players average double figures for UWF – Zoe Piller (18.0 ppg/10.3 rpg), Jaclyn Jarnot (16.8 ppg/10.8 rpg) and Maddie Griffon (11.3 ppg/4.5 rpg/2.5 apg) … Piller and Jarnot have each posted a double-double in the last three games.
 
PILLER RIDING GSC PLAYER & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS
Freshman Zoe Piller averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 68 percent in wins over Pensacola Christian and Spring Hill last week, earning her GSC Player and Freshman of the Week honors. She started her weekend off with 24 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in the road game at PCC. She had 15 points and 10 boards two days later in the home opener against the Badgers … Piller leads UWF with 18.0 points per game and is 26th in the country with a 63.6 field goal percentage. Her three double-doubles in four games rank tied for sixth nationally.

UWF'S LAST TIME OUT
UWF used a strong inside game to defeat Spring Hill, 57-43, in Pensacola last Sunday … UWF ran it's win streak to three as the Argonauts extended a 6-point halftime lead to double figures with an 11-4 third quarter … The defense held Spring Hill to just two field goals and seven turnovers in the period … Zoe Piller and Jaclyn Jarnot were the strong performers inside for UWF. Both players recorded their third-consecutive game with a double-double as they combined for 25 points and 25 rebounds … Maddie Griffon added 13 points, seven boards, two assists and three steals from her point guard spot … UWF shot 40 percent, including 6-of-12 in the fourth quarter and controlled the boards with a 40-30 rebounding margin.

YEAR 10 FOR COACH SLY
Head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her tenth season at UWF and enters the game with a 152-107 record … Yelton is 209-191 in her 15th year as a college head coach … She has led the Argos to four NCAA Regionals and eight GSC Tournaments.

William Carey is 3-1 on the season and playing its first game since last Saturday … The Crusaders average 66 points per game and shoot 43.5 pct. from the floor … Three players averaged 9.0 points or more, led by Rebekah Engle with 16.8 ppg on 57 pct. shooting … Lauren Rowley is second in scoring with 14.3 ppg and 5.8 rebounds per game … The Crusaders are an NAIA program out of Hattiesburg, Miss.
