UWF Drops Exhibition Game at No. 16 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team dropped an exhibition contest at No. 16 Florida State, 91-47, at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Wednesday night.
 
Jaclyn Jarnot led UWF with 13 points, while Charlotte Ellmore and Fanny Hulmi added nine each. Maddie Griffon had six points, five assists and three steals from her point guard spot.
 
UWF took it to FSU in the opening half, playing the Seminoles shot-for-shot. The Argonauts led 17-16 after the first quarter and trailed by just seven, 37-30, at the intermission. UWF shot 41 percent and scored 15 points off 10 FSU turnovers.
 
"I challenged our players to increase their level of intensity and try to maintain it for as long as possible, UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "Our team rose to the occasion and was able to do just that."
 
In the second half, FSU used its size advantage and scored 34 points in the paint to pull away. The 7-point deficit remained intact midway through the third quarter before the Seminoles went on an 8-0 run to get the margin into double figures.
 
UWF shot 32 percent for the game and was outrebounded 45-17.
 
FSU was led by Valencia Myers with 19 points and Makayla Timpson had 17 on 7-of-7 shooting. The Seminoles had 27 second chance points on 19 offensive rebounds.
 
The Argonauts played all 14 available players with 10 of them playing at least 10 minutes apiece.
 
UWF will officially open the 26t season of women's basketball next weekend at the South Regional Crossover in Valdosta, Georgia. The Argos will open with Benedict on Friday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time and Palm Beach Atlantic a day later at 2 p.m. ET.
