PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team hits the road for the start of Gulf South Conference play with a midweek contest at West Georgia. The Wolves will be playing ttheir first game at home this season when things get going at 6:30 p.m. Central Time.

ABOUT THE ARGOS
* UWF ran its winning streak to four games with a 71-50 won over William Carey on Sunday. The Argonauts are 4-1 this season with their lone loss coming to Benedict in the opener.
* Newcomers
Zoe Piller,
Jaclyn Jarnot and
Maddie Griffon have been strong additions to the team, playing keys roles with returning standouts
Charlotte Ellmore,
Gabby Brown,
Peyton Lewis and
Fanny Hulmi.
* Jarnot averages a double-double with 15.8 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per game (1st in GSC, 13th in NCAA). The North Dakota transfer has registered a double-double in the last four games, including a 12-point, 20-rebound effort on Sunday. She is 6th in the country with 4 double-doubles.
*Â Piller has been the GSC Freshman of the Week twice and the Player of the Week once. She averages 15.2 ppg and 9.4 rpg with three double-doubles. She is 2nd in the GSC and 17th in the NCAA with a 62.5 FG pct.
* Brown established career-highs for points (27) and 3-pointers made (6) in the win over William Carey.
* UWF is averaging 72.4 ppg as a team on 40.7 pct. shooting. They are allowing 59.8 ppg on 36.5 pct. shooting.

REBOUNDING A STRENGTH FOR UWF ONCE AGAIN
* Historically, UWF has been a dominant rebounding team at both ends of the floor and 2021-22 appears to be no different. UWF ranks second in the GSC at 44.6 rpg and is third in rebound defense, allowing just 31.6 rpg.Â

ABOUT WEST GEORGIA
* UWG is 2-2 on the season after splitting two home games last week - an 82-79 OT loss to #5 North Georgia and a 81-36 win over Oakwood.
* The Wolves have two returning starters back in senoirs Siera Carter and Zaria Bankston. Carter has scored at least 20 points in three of their four games this season and leads the GSC at 22.0 points per game. She is sixth in the GSC in field goal percentage (.493), 11th in three-pointers per game (1.8), 7th in assists per game (3.8) and 1nd in steals per game (3.5). Bankston averages 12.0 ppg and is the GSC's leading free throw shooter at  14-for-14.

UWF-UWG SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 33-27 against UWG dating back to the first meeting in 1989-90. The Wolves lead the series in Carrollton, 16-12. The Argos are 13-8 in Pensacola since 2001.
* The Argos are 8-5 in the last 13 games, with the magic number being 63. UWF is 8-0 when scoring at least 63 points and 0-5 when not.
* UWF won all three games last season after the Wolves won both games iin 2019-20. The Argos are looking for their first 4-game win streak in the series since sweeping the home-and-home in 2006 and 2007.

YELTON IN TENTH SEASON AT UWF
* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her tenth season at UWF and has a 153-107 record with the Argos … She is 210-191 in her 15th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the title game.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.

UWF PICKED 8TH IN GSC COACHES POLL
* UWF was picked to finish eighth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll, while the Wolves were picked ninth … Defending champion Union earned 10 of 12 first place votes and was picked first for the third-consecutive year. Lee received on first place vote, followed by Valdosta State with the 13th top vote. Montevallo took fourth, while Delta State rounded out the top five with Alabama Huntsville, West Alabama and West Florida sixth through eighth. West Georgia was ninth, while Christian Brothers, Mississippi College, Auburn Montgomery and Shorter also in the list.
