Argonauts looking for one more win to clinch sixth straight GSC Regular Season Title

PENSACOLA, Fla. – With just three matches remaining in the regular season, the University of West Florida Volleyball team will hit the road again this weekend to take on conference opponents Mississippi College and West Alabama.

As the newly ranked No. 1 team within the NCAA South Regional Rankings, the Argonauts are looking to secure at least one more win in their final three matches to clinch their sixth straight Gulf South Conference Regular Season title.

About West Florida – The Argonauts enter this weekend as the No. 7 ranked team in the nation with the nation's best win/loss percentage at 28-1 on the season. This record includes a 13-0 mark in Gulf South Conference play with West Florida picking up a big five set victory over Montevallo this past Tuesday.

Attacking opponents from every position on the court, the Argonauts run one of the top offenses in the nation backed by three strong hitters who all average over 3.00 kills per set as well as a setter who averages nearly 11 assists per set.

Veresia Yon, who is coming off of her third GSC Offensive Player of the Week award this week, has been very dominant for the Argos this season on both the offensive and defensive end of play. Leading the team in points and kills, Yon is averaging 3.31 kills per set and 4.21 points per set on the season. Already with over 1,000 assists on the season, Vaneekeren's 10.68 assists per set average in a whole point better than the next closest setter in the conference.

On defense, the Argonauts rank second in the nation in blocks per set as a team while topping the nation in total blocks with 260.5 on the season. Yon and freshman Jenna Zydlo are a big part of this success as Yon ranks fourth in the nation in total blocks (118.0) while Zydlo ranks 45th in the nation (91.0).

As a team West Florida ranks within the top ten of the country in assists per set, blocks per set, hitting percentage, kills per set, opponent hitting percentage, team assists, team kills, as well as team total blocks.
