West Florida Crowned GSC Regular Season Champions with Sweep Over Mississippi College

13th time in program history the Argonauts have been the regular season champion

CLINTON, Miss. – For the sixth straight season and thirteenth overall, the University of West Florida Volleyball team has finished atop the Gulf South Conference in regular season play sweeping Mississippi College to secure the top spot.  

Now 29-1 overall and 14-0 in conference play, the No. 7 ranked Argonauts have now secured home court advantage for the upcoming GSC Championships which will take place Nov. 19-21 from the UWF Field House.

In the match, West Florida fought back from a late deficit in set one overcoming four set point opportunities from the Choctaws to take the set and swing all of the momentum in their favor. After this early surge of momentum, the Argonauts executed well in sets two and three to secure sweep number 22 on the season.

Madi Cooler led all hitters in tonight's match finishing with 15 kills in the contest. Alex Oliver and Veresia Yon each had solid nights offensively as well tonight as Yon finished with 8 kills and Oliver with 6 kills.

Setter Taylor Vaneekeren once again averaged over ten assists per set tonight finishing with 36 total assists in the match. In addition to the assists, Vaneekeren also picked up two huge aces as well as 8 digs in the match as she continues to be an all-around force for this West Florida team.

Defensively, Ashton Marshall had a great match from her libero position leading all players with 18 digs in the match for an average of 6 digs per set. In addition to Marshall's efforts, the Argonauts also finished with 7 total team blocks with Yon leading the team with 3 blocks.

West Florida will now remain on the road for one more match this weekend tomorrow against West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama. First serve will at 6 pm from Pruitt Hall with the live stream being found here and live stats being found here.
