D'Anthony Bell Named GSC Defensive Player of the Week

The senior had seven tackles and a 90-yard interception return

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UWF safety D'Anthony Bell was named the Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior from Covington, Ga. had seven tackles and one tackle for loss in the 47-7 win over 21st-ranked West Alabama on Saturday. He put the exclamation point on the dominating defensive performance with a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown.

UWF held the Tigers without an offensive touchdown for the first time since 2012 and neutralized their run-pass offense to just 35 rushing yards with five sacks. The Argo defense has not allowed a score over the last six quarters and has four second-half shutouts in nine games.

The third-ranked Argonauts improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the GSC as they won their tenth-consecutive road game.

UWF will face No. 2 Valdosta State (9-0, 6-0) this Saturday at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and tickets can be purchased by going online to GoArgos.com/fbtickets.
