PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Jaclyn Jarnot and
Peyton Lewis each made three 3-point field goals to help lead UWF to a 76-62 win over Auburn Montgomery at the UWF Field House on Saturday.
UWF improved to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in Gulf South Conference play while matching the best 10-game start in program history.
The Argonauts shot 44 percent and made nine 3-pointers – one shy of their season-high.
Jarnot had 21 points and 15 rebounds for her eighth double-double, while Lewis had a season-high 15 points off the bench.
"We knew AUM would be a worthy opponent and I am proud of the performance we put on (tonight)," UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "We weathered some storms and made some in-game corrections and the score showed that. We are a good team when we play together and we also got some great minutes off the bench tonight."
After falling behind 6-0, UWF went on a 16-7 run to take its first lead of the game. The Argos extended the lead to 13 late in the half before an
Amara Newsom layup sent the home team into the locker room with a 45-33 lead.
The Warhawks closed to within eight twice in the fourth quarter but UWF got clutch threes from Jarnot and
Charlotte Ellmore and a pair of Newsom free throws to push the margin back into double figures.
AUM lost for the third-straight game, dropping to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in league play. Catlin Carter led the Warhawks with 20 points and Kailyn Farrell added 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
UWF will return to play on Monday when it hosts Montevallo (5-7, 1-3). Tip time at the UWF Field House is at 5:30 p.m.
