PENSACOLA, Fla- In an absolute heartbreaker the University of West Florida Women's Soccer season ended in penalty kicks on Friday afternoon. The Argos ended the year with a record of 14-3-3.
With two of the best defenses in the South Region shots were limited in the first half with West Florida narrowly outshooting Florida Tech 5-4. The Panthers were able to strike first when
Marem Ndiongue scored in the 28th minute for the panthers. Shortly after the Argos would respond with a goal of their own in the 34th minute when Peyton
Peffers scored with an assist from
Blair Cowan. After the first half neither team was able to score.
Goalkeeper
Charline Favier had two saves to end the half. West Florida also had four corner kicks during the half, while Florida Tech had none.Â
During the second half West Florida came out hot playing an aggressive game. UWF
outshot Florida Tech 8-1, the Argos had eight shots on targets during the half. Panther Goalkeeper Maria Sanchez
Recuero had seven saves to stall the Argos effort. In corner kicks West Florida led with eight, while the Florida Tech Panthers have two.
After 90 minutes of
regulation the score was tied at 1-1 and the teams went into overtime. After the first overtime the score remained tied and the team were forced into double overtime. After 110 minutes the official match ended in a draw. For the first time this season the University of West Florida Women's Soccer team went to penalty kicks. The Florida Tech Panthers however were no strangers to penalty kicks as this was their third time having a game decided by penalty kicks.Â

Overall UWF outshot FIT 14-5, with eight corner kicks. UWF goalkeeper
Charline Favier ended the match with two saves. The FIT goalkeeper had eight saves to end the match.
Although West Florida came up short in the South Region Championship the team had much success. Finishing the season with a record of 14-3-3, making an
appearance in the GSC tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time and program history. On the season the Argos have 34 goals and were led in scoring by
Blair Cowan with 10 goals.

Peffers ended the season with four goals. Destiny
Hammac and Lauren
Ragazzone each had three goals this season. Five players scored at least one goal this season.Â
