PENSACOLA, Fla. – Riding a 10-game winning streak and the best start in more than 20 years, the UWF Women's Basketball team will resume play this weekend with contests at West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville. The Argos will face the Tigers on New Year's Eve in Pruitt Hall at 4 p.m. before heading to Huntsville for a battle with the Chargers on Sunday at Spragins Hall at 2 p.m.
ABOUT THE ARGOS
* UWF is 10-1 overall and 5-0 in Gulf South Conference play … The Argonauts have won their last 10 games, which includes three GSC road victories.
* UWF is averaging 72.2 ppg as a team on 41.5 pct. shooting. They are allowing 62.9 ppg on 38.8 pct. shooting.

Jaclyn Jarnot (Jar-knit) averages a double-double with 16.7 points per game and 13.6 rebounds per game (1st in GSC, third in NCAA). Her 10.2 defensive boards per contest are second in the country. The North Dakota transfer has registered a double-double in nine of 11 games to rank third in the country.

Zoe Piller (Zoey) averages 17.4 ppg and 9.7 rpg with six double-doubles. She leads the GSC and is eighth in the NCAA with a 62.6 FG pct. Her scoring average is sixth in the NCAA among freshmen. She has been the GSC Freshman of the Week three times and the Player of the Week once.

Maddie Griffon (Grif-fawn) is third on the team in scoring at 10.3 ppg and tied for the team lead with 42 assists (3.8 apg).

Gabby Brown is fourth in scoring on the team with 8.7 ppg and third in rebounding at 4.3 rpg.

Charlotte Ellmore leads the team with 36.1 minutes per game and is tied with Griffon with 42 assists. She is 17th nationally and 2nd in the GSC with a 2.47 assist-to-turnover ratio.
UWF OFF TO ANOTHER STRONG START
* UWF is playing some strong basketball to start the season. The 10-1 start is currently tied for the best after 11 games in program history. It is also the fourth time in the last seven years to be at least at 9-2 or better after 11 contests. The three previous teams all won at least one game in the NCAA Tournament with the 2017 squad reaching in the Elite Eight.

WIN STREAK REACHES 10, TIED FOR NO. 3 IN PROGRAM HISTORY
* UWF has reeled off 10-consecutive wins, tied for the third-longest streak in UWF women's basketball history. The 1997-98 team that started 17-1, reeled off 14-straight after a 3-1 start to hold the record. The 2018-19 squad won the final 13 regular-season games for No. 2 on the list, just ahead of the 10-straight by the 2005-06 team.

* UWF enters the weekend with 598 all-time wins dating back 42 years to the inaugural season of 1981-82. The Argonauts are 598-519 all-time with six NCAA Tournament appearances, one Elite Eight, four GSC Regular-Season Championships and one GSC tourney title in 18 appearances.
* In 28 seasons of NCAA/GSC membership, the program is 423-327 for a .560 winning pct., ranking fifth among current members and third among those that have been in the league for at least 10 seasons.
GETTING TO THE LINE
* UWF has made 180 free throws this season for a 16.4 makes per game, while averaging 23.3 FT attempts per game. The opponents have ATTEMPTED two fewer FTs (178) than UWF has MADE (180) this season.
* The Argos have attempted at least 20 free throws in a game seven times this season, including the last four.

REBOUNDING A STRENGTH FOR UWF ONCE AGAIN
* Historically, UWF has been a dominant rebounding team at both ends of the floor and 2021-22 is no different. UWF ranks first in the GSC at 43.5 rpg and is second in rebound defense, allowing just 31.5 rpg. The 12.0 rebound margin is first (5th in NCAA), with Delta State in second at 9.8.

UWF RECEIVING VOTES IN TOP 25 POLLS, RANKED FOURTH IN THE D2SIDA SOUTH REGION POLL
* UWF received 15 votes in this week's WBCA Top 25 Poll. That places the Argonauts seventh among the others receiving votes. They are also the fifth team receiving votes in the D2 Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Poll.
* UWF moved up two spots to No. 4 in the D2SIDA region rankings.
* Tampa is No. 1 and Eckerd is No. 2, followed by Union at No. 3. Barry, Lee and Valdosta State are Nos. 5-7 respectively.
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA
* UWA is 9-3 this season and 3-1 in GSC play. The Tigers are 5-0 at home, including an 83-68 win over Shorter on Dec. 18 in which they erased a 15-point second-half deficit.
* UWA averages 70.0 ppg on 46.5 pct. shooting (2nd in GSC) with 76 pct. of their attempts from inside the 3-point line. They average 41.2 rebounds per game and have a plus-8.1 rebounding margin, 16.5 assists and 9.6 steals per game. The Tigers are second in the GSC with 34.4 FG pct. defense.
* Tazsa Garret-Hammett leads the team and is seventh in the GSC at 15.0 points per game, followed closely by 14.3 from Bria Dent. Dent is second in the league in rebounding with 10.2 rpg, in between UWF's Jarnot and Piller and has six double-doubles, with four in the last five games. Jala Williams runs the offense with 4.9 assists per contest and has a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio.
UWF-UWA SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 30-24 against UWA since joining the NCAA and GSC in the 1994-95 season. The Argos are 9-16 at Pruitt Hall against the Tigers but are 5-1 in the last six matchups in Livingston.
* The teams did not play last season with the GSC East/West Division format. UWA swept the home-and-home in 2019-20, winning both games in an 8-day stretch from Jan. 25-Feb. 1. The only current Argos who have played UWA are Charlotte Ellmore (2 games) and Fanny Hulmi (1 game).
ABOUT ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE
* The Chargers are 1-8 overall and winless in four conference contests entering Friday's game with Valdosta State.
* Three players average more than 10 points per game, led by Selena Pruitt at 11.9 points with a team-leading 5.3 rebounds per game and 15 3-pointers. Alexis Woods was averaging 11.3 ppg on a team-best 54 percent shooting but has not played since Dec. 2, while Miajah Bullock averages 10.2 ppg.
* UAH makes 41.4 pct of its field goals and is scoring at a 57.8 ppg clip. They allow 68.2 ppg on 42.2 shooting and are at a minus-10.8 rebound margin.
UWF-UAH SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 31-27 all-time versus UAH, including a 16-12 mark on the road. Sunday's game will be the first meeting in two years and the first in Huntsville since a 72-69 UWF win on Dec. 15, 2018. In fact, the Argos have won three-consecutive and four of the last five against the Chargers at Spragins Hall.
* The Argos have gone 4-1 in the last five meetings overall.
YELTON IN TENTH SEASON AT UWF
* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her tenth season at UWF and has a 159-107 record with the Argos … She is 216-191 in her 15th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the title game.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
* She is 12-4 against UWA and 6-7 against UAH.
UWF PICKED 8TH IN GSC COACHES POLL
* UWF was picked to finish eighth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll, while the Wolves were picked ninth … Defending champion Union earned 10 of 12 first place votes and was picked first for the third-consecutive year. Lee received on first place vote, followed by Valdosta State with the 13th top vote. Montevallo took fourth, while Delta State rounded out the top five with Alabama Huntsville, West Alabama and West Florida sixth through eighth. West Georgia was ninth, while Christian Brothers, Mississippi College, Auburn Montgomery and Shorter also in the list.
