UWF's Win Streak Snapped With 70-57 Loss at West Alabama

The Argos made a season-high 11 3-pointers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The UWF women's basketball team suffered through a slow first half and was unable to recover, falling to West Alabama, 70-57, at Pruitt Hall on Friday.
 
UWF (10-2, 5-1 Gulf South) made a season-high 11 3-pointers but shot just 34 percent overall as its 10-game winning streak came to an end.
 
Peyton Lewis led the team with five triples on her way to a season-high 16 points. She has made nine 3-pointers in the last three games. Gabby Brown had 13 points, while Charlotte Ellmore and Zoe Piller added 11 each. Piller posted her seventh double-double with 10 rebounds.
 
UWA (10-3, 4-1) was led by Tazsa Garrett-Hammett's 31 points, seven boards and three steals.
 
The Tigers got out to a 10-4 lead midway through the first quarter before the Argonauts responded with threes from Lewis and two from Ellmore to grab a 13-12 advantage. UWA closed the period on a 6-0 run.
 
UWF got within four in the second quarter before UWA took a 35-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Argos battled back with strong outside shooting and worked the deficit down to 54-50 with 7:01 to play but was unable to continue the comeback.
 
UWF's 10-game win streak was tied for the third-longest stretch in program history.
 
UWF will look to start a new winning streak on Sunday when it travels to northern Alabama for a game against Alabama Huntsville (1-9, 0-5), Tip-off at Spragins Hall is set for 2 p.m.
