PENSACOLA, Fla. – Riding a GSC-best 3-game win streak, the UWF women's basketball team travels to Montevallo for a pair of games this weekend on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
* The Argonauts are in fourth place in the GSC East Division with a .538 winning pct. following a two home wins last week over West Georgia and a road win at AUM on Tuesday. Montevallo is in second place in the division with a .727 league winning pct.
ABOUT THE ARGOS
* UWF improved to 7-6 with a dominating 70-46 win at AUM on Tuesday. The Argonauts are 3-2 on the road this season with two wins over AUM and one at Shorter.
* Senior F
Danielle Norquest leads the team with 12.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. She is also shooting 44 percent from the floor and 40 percent from outside, making 17-of-43 3-pointers. She leads the team with five double-doubles, including in both UWG games last weekend.
* Junior G
Charlotte Ellmore is second on the squad with 10.3 ppg and leads the team lead with 20 3-pointers. She has made at least two triples in seven games and at least one in the 12 of the 13 contests.
* No Argonaut has been more consistent the past three weeks than junior G
Peyton Lewis. In the last six games, she has averaged 13.8 points – with all six games in double figures – and shot 53 pct. She has connected on 40 pct. from outside, making 13-of-30 3-pointers.
* UWF is averaging 65.6 ppg as a team on 36.3 pct. shooting. They are allowing 67.8 ppg on 42 pct. shooting.
NOTES FROM TUESDAY'S 70-46 WIN AT AUM
* UWF shot 42 pct. and made seven 3-pointers – four in the first half. The Argonauts dominated glass with a 52-23 rebounding margin, including 17 on the offensive end that they converted into 11 points.

Peyton Lewis led UWF with 13 points, scoring all of those in the second quarter during the game-changing 16-4 run that tilted a 15-9 UWF lead into a 31-13 edge before the half.

D'Asia Collins ran the offense to perfection, finishing with 12 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Fanny Hulmi was equally impressive with a dozen points on 5-of-8 shooting with two treys, five boards, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
* UWF also got 25 points from its bench on Tuesday.
NORQUEST HAS MONSTER WEEK, HIGHLIGHTED BY 30/20 GAME
* Senior F
Danielle Norquest had a dynamite three games last week, averaging 17.3 points and 14.0 rebounds against Valdosta State and West Georgia. She shot 53 percent overall and was 5-of-12 from outside with two assists and four steals.
* She had two double-doubles in the weekend wins over West Georgia – 12 pts and 12 rebs on Friday with 7p/2r/1a in the 4t qtr to seal it. On Saturday she had 34 points and 20 rebounds in the win, with identical 17p/10r in each half. Her career-high 34 points and career high-tying 20 rebounds rank among this year's national single-game leaders in each category. The scoring mark is tied for the 12th-highest in the D2 ranks, while the rebounds mark is tied for 10th in the division. In the GSC, only CBU's Brynne Lytle's nation-high 45 are more than the Argo forward.
LEWIS BREAKS OUT IN GEORGIA HOMECOMING, CONTINUES STRONG PLAY
* Junior G
Peyton Lewis had a standout two games at Shorter two weeks ago, posting career-highs in each game while providing a spark off the bench for the Argos.
* In the last six games, the junior from Hampton, Ga. has averaged 13.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the floor. She posted back-to-back career-highs, scoring 15 points in the Friday Shorter game and 16 points the next afternoon.
* The Kennesaw State transfer has raised her scoring average from 4.0 points to 8.5 ppg in the last six contests. She had totaled 18 points in seven games before scoring 83 in the last six. She has posted her six highest-scoring games as an Argo in the last six outings, while leading the team in scoring twice and ranking second the other four games.
FAST STARTS LEAD TO WINS AS ARGOS RUN TOGETHER PAST UWG
* UWF had two of the best first quarter's in the past two years over the weekend, scoring 25 points in each game to race out to big leads. On Friday, they used an 18-0 run over the first 8:00 for a 25-4 lead at the qtr. On Saturday, it was more of the same with a 3-point barrage of 6-of-11 in the quarter that led to a 17-4 margin before a 25-10 lead at the quarter break.
THIRD QUARTER IS THE MAGIC QUARTER
* UWF is averaging 29.5 points in the first half and 36.1 points after halftime. The best quarter average for the Argos is the third, where they have outscored their opponents 19.1-17.8 on average. UWF is 4-2 on the year when they outscore their opponents in the 10 minutes immediately following halftime. Ironically, they didn't outscore UWG in the third of either game last weekend but did hold 21-13 and 23-18 edges in the final stanza of both contests.

SCHOOL 3-POINT RECORD
* After three games this season, UWF had made just 18 3-pointers for 6.0 made per game. The squad has found its stroke in the last 10 contests, connecting on 81 for 8.1 per game, bringing its season average to 7.6 per game, ranking fourth in the GSC overall and second in the East Division behind Lee's 9.2.
* Three weekends ago against No. 18 Lee, UWF made 22 triples in the two contests, marking the most in consecutive games since at least the 1993-94 season. The Argos made seven in each game at Shorter last weekend.
* The 12 makes in the 71-62 win were the most since making 12-of-27 against Concordia-Selma on Feb. 23, 2010.

* Historically, UWF has been a dominant rebounding team at both ends of the floor and 2020-21 appears to be no different. UWF leads the GSC at 43.1 rpg and is second in rebound defense, allowing just 33.2 rpg.

SCOUTING MONTEVALLO
* Montevallo is 8-4 overall this season and in second place in the GSC East Division with a 7-4 record. The Falcons have won three of their last four, collecting two wins over third-place Lee and splitting on the road against first place and No. 5 Valdosta State last weekend.
* Jordan Jones leads three players in double figures with 13.4 points per game. Marissa Snodgrass has made a team-high 26 3-pointers on 35 pct. 3-point shooting. She also leads the GSC with 4.9 assists per game.
* UM has led the GSC offensively for the majority of the season, averaging 79.1 ppg. The Falcons defense has been very good, leading the league in steals with 11.92 spg and holding opponents to 38 percent shooting and 28 percent from outside. They rank third in the GSC with 40.9 rebounds per game.

* UWF leads the all-time series with Montevallo 33-21. The Falcons have won the last four games, sweeping last year's home-and-home contests and both games in Pensacola in January. Prior to that, the Argos had won four of the previous five.

* Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her ninth season at UWF and has a 146-99 record at UWF … She is 204-184 in her 14th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the title game.
* As a head coach, she has 13 wins versus Shorter, 12 against West Alabama and 11 against both Delta State and Valdosta State.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
GSC SPLIT INTO DIVISIONS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2010-11
* With an abbreviated season due to the uncertainty of health and wellness brought on by the Corona virus pandemic, the Gulf South Conference worked through a number of scheduling scenarios and ultimately settled on a 20-game slate using an East-West model … UWF is in the East with AUM, Lee, Montevallo, Shorter, Valdosta State and West Georgia … The Argos will face AUM and Montevallo four times, and the other four schools three times … The top four teams from each division will qualify for the GSC Championship.
UWF PICKED 6TH IN GSC COACHES POLL
* UWF was picked to finish sixth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll, while the Lady Blazers were picked fourth … Defending champion Lee earned four of six first place votes and was picked first in the East, followed by Montevallo who received the other two first place votes. West Georgia, VSU and Auburn Montgomery were ahead of the Argos, with Shorter picked seventh.
NORQUEST NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* Senior F Danielle Norquest was named to the Preseason All-GSC East Division Team in the preseason … The standout from Diamond, Ohio, is coming off a season in which she averaged 14.5 points and 12.9 rebounds per game … She is the third leading returning scorer in the GSC East Division … Last season she led the league and ranked sixth nationally with a school-record-tying 21 double-doubles … Norquest enters the Montevallo weekend with 811 points and 659 rebounds in four seasons at UWF.
WHAT'S BACK FOR THE ARGOS
* UWF returns six letterwinners from a year ago, including five players who started at least 15 games … Senior F Danielle Norquest and junior G Charlotte Ellmore each started all 28 games and combined for 24.2 points, 16.1 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game … Junior C Aline Fevrier continued to improve in the post with 5.1 ppg and 4.0 rpg … Additionally, redshirt sophomore PG D'Asia Collins returns after missing the entire season with a knee injury.
