UWF Women’s Tennis Relies on Strong Singles Play Once Again to Take Down Lee

Argos once again sweep the singles portion of the match

Cleveland, Tenn. – It was yet another dominant performance for UWF Women's Tennis team taking down Lee 6-1 to remain unbeaten on the season. Once again, the Argonauts faltered in the doubles portion before settling in and sweeping the singles portion.

Karolina Silwanowicz and Manon Meulenberg once again had trouble finding their rhythm as partners falling 6-3 as the No. 3 pair. Samantha Echevarria and Irene Recuenco also fell in their doubles match 6-3 giving the lone doubles point to the Lady Flames. However, Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin did come out victorious in their match winning in a tiebreaker to give them the 7-6 victory as well as their first win as a pairing.

"The girl's started it off slow in doubles," says Head Coach Derrick Racine. "However they were able to rebound quickly once again in singles."

In singles, the women once again continued their dominance from yesterday fighting all the way back to secure a 6-1 win. Bonardi, Recuenco, Yigin, and Raissa Wagner all won in straight sets today keeping their singles records perfect at 2-0 each. Silwanowicz and Echevarria each needed three sets to close things out but ultimately won 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 to each remain unbeaten as well.

"It was a good match for us," stated Coach Racine, "they have a quality team and we really had to fight for each point".

West Florida will look to make it a perfect 3-0 road trip tomorrow when they are set to face off against another conference foe Shorter at 10 AM (ET) from Rome, Ga.
