Women’s Tennis ITA National Team Indoor Championship Weekend Schedule Announced

Weekend brings eight top 20 teams in the nation together

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – West Florida Women's Tennis team will head to Oklahoma City this weekend to compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the first time. The Argonauts are scheduled to play Angelo State University this Friday at 8 AM to kick off festivities.

This is the second annual National Indoor Championship and the second straight year the University of Central Oklahoma has hosted this event from the Edmond Center Court Complex.

The Teams: Teams for this year's championship come from all around the country and feature a wider array of top 25 teams due to some conference's policies on team travel.

#4 University of Indianapolis (1 Seed): As the top-ranked team headed to Oklahoma City, the Greyhounds will be the number one seed this weekend. This comes off a 9-1 season last year in which the Greyhounds knocked off three ranked teams including going 2-1 in last year's Indoor Championship. This season, Indianapolis is off to another great start going 4-0 to start their 2021 Spring season.

#5 Columbus State University (2 Seed): The Cougars are back in the ITA Indoor for the second straight year after going 1-2 in last year's competition. Overall, the Cougars finished last year 8-3 including three wins over ranked opponents. This season, Columbus State is off to a 1-1 start after falling to #21 West Alabama earlier in the year.

#7 University of West Florida (3 Seed): This marks the first year the Argonauts will be participating in the ITA National Indoor Championship after narrowly missing an invite last year. In 2020, West Florida was 7-1 on the season including a win over #6 St. Leo before the season shut down. This year the Argos are off to another good start going 3-0 before heading west this weekend.

#8 University of Central Oklahoma (4 Seed): Central Oklahoma is back after getting automatic bids the past two years as the host of the tournament. However, the Broncos are very deserving of a spot in this championship as they come in as the #8 team in the nation after going 4-2 last season. This year the Broncos are 1-0 coming into the tournament and look to continue their success this weekend.

#10 Flagler (5 Seed): The Saints are another team competing in their first-ever ITA Team Indoor Championship after a successful 2020 season which saw them finish 8-4 on the year. For this season, Flagler is another team entering the championship with an undefeated record as they are currently 2-0 on the season.

#13 Angelo State University (6 Seed): Angelo State started 2021 high in the ITA Preseason Team Rankings after finishing an impressive 10-1 record last season. The Rams will also head to Oklahoma City for the first time this weekend looking to improve on their 2-1 record for the year.

#14 Southwest Baptist (7 Seed): The Bearcats are another team who had an impressive season last year finishing 7-1 including a win over #15 Midwestern State. Southwest Baptist will enter their first-ever ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a record of 2-1 with the only loss coming to fellow championship participant Indianapolis.

#16 Midwestern State University (8 Seed): Midwestern State came into the 2021 season ranked as the #16 team in the nation after going 8-4 last season. The Mustangs haven't had must time to compete before this championship having only faced fellow tournament team Central Oklahoma. This championship should be a great early season test for the Mustangs to see where they stand early in the year.

The Draw: Like any typical tournament seeding, the ITA National Team Indoor Championship will pair the highest seeds with the lowest seeds to start the competition.
