OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – West Florida Men's Tennis team dropped a hard-fought match against #10 Indianapolis today in their second match of the ITA National Tennis Team Indoor Championship. The Argos fell 4-0 to the Greyhounds and now sit at 4-1 on the young season.
Starting with doubles play, the Argos were able to jump out in front early before dropping two heartbreaking matches in tiebreakers to surrender the lone point.
Gabriel Nery and
Salvador Bandeira continued their dominance as a pairing winning the lone doubles match of the day 6-2 from the No. 2 position. Salvador Bojadjiev and
Adam Svensson were at it once again from the No. 1 position, but unlike yesterday were unable to come out victorious dropping their match 6-7 to the Greyhounds.
Nicolas Lecoutre and
William Shkrob had a similar fate from the No. 3 position dropping their match 6-7 as well to give Indianapolis the point.
Single's play was another back-and-forth affair with the Argos dropping three matches to surrender the match. Bojadjiev faced off against #12 ranked Renato Lima from the No. 1 position and fell 6-3, 6-3 in a high-intensity match.
Juan Motta playing from the No. 4 position, dropped the Argos third point falling 6-1, 6-2 in his match. Bandeira was the last to finish losing 6-3, 6-4 to Tom Zeuch from the No. 2 position.
All three remaining matches saw the Argos hold a slight lead before they all went unfinished after the Greyhounds secured the win.
Lecoutre was victorious in his first set 7-6 and was playing in a back and forth second set before the conclusion. Svensson was in a third set tiebreaker looking to secure the Argos first point before the stoppage. Lastly,
Juan Cabrera was ahead 7-5, 3-3 in his match before that one went unfinished as well.
This loss will move the Argonauts to 4-1 on the year and drop them to the third-place game in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Tomorrow will be the final day from Oklahoma City for the Argos as they square off with #7 Drury at 5:45 PM to close out the weekend.
