Argos Wrap-Up ITA National Team Indoor Championship with Win Over #10 Flagler

West Florida finishes 2-1 on the weekend with two wins over top-ten wins

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – West Florida Women's Tennis team picked up another statement win today, taking down #10 Flagler 4-2 in the Argonauts final match of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Argos now sit at an impressive 5-1 on the season and will finish in fifth place for this championship.

West Florida kicked things off again today with doubles, winning the lone doubles point for the third straight match this weekend.

Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin continued their dominance as a pairing winning 7-5 from the No. 1 position to improve to 5-1 on the season. Karolina Silwanowicz and Samantha Echevarria picked up the other doubles victory winning 6-4 from the No. 2 position to secure the point.

"We have worked hard the past couple weeks to improve our doubles," stated Head Coach Derrick Racine. "This work really payed off for us this weekend as we won the doubles point in all three matches, each against top ten opponents."

Singles play brought much excitement as many matches were very competitive and a couple big victories were enough to ensure the Argos came out ahead.

Bonardi playing from the No. 1 position continued her dominance at the colligate level taking down #14 ranked player Eden Schlagenhauf 6-2, 7-6 to secure a point. Silwanowicz was able to get back on track today winning 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 3 position. The final point of the day came from the Freshman Yigin who remained unbeaten in singles play winning 6-4, 6-1 from the No. 4 position.

"The girls played three very tough matches this weekend," said Coach Racine. "We lost a heartbreaker in the first match but end with hard-fought victories in our last two matches. All the teams in this tournament are tough and competition like this will mold us into a much stronger team."

West Florida will now head back home from the ITA National Team Indoor Championships where they will leave with a 2-1 record in their first appearance in the tournament. Coach Racine had high praises for this event and had this to say afterwards.

"This was a first-class event and was the product of a lot of hard work by the ITA and the host schools," Coach Racine remarked. "I want to thank our administration and our boosters because without them we would have never had this opportunity to compete. This type of competition will give us the edge we need when we compete later this Spring for GSC and NCAA National Championships."

The Argonauts will now have a bit of a break before their next match as it will come on March 12 here at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
