2021 UWF FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF football program will play two of the last three national championship winning schools, host five home games and face an NCAA Division I FCS team in its 2021 schedule that was announced on Tuesday.
Â
Additionally, the Argonauts will play a 7-game Gulf South Conference slate with home games against Valdosta State and West Georgia, among others.
Â
UWF will enter the season as the defending NCAA DII national champion. The Argos won the title in 2019 and the 2020 season was not played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UWF opens defense of its title on the road at McNeese State on Sept. 4. The trip will be the second Division I contest for the program following a win at North Alabama in 2018.
Â
UWF will return to Pensacola for the first of five home contests when it welcomes Southwest Baptist to town on Sept. 11. The Argonauts went undefeated in Pensacola during the 2019 campaign, winning all five games by an average of 26 points.
Â
A week later, the Argonauts will travel to Texas A&M-Commerce for the first of a home-and-home series with the 2017 DII national champions. The teams first met in the 2017 title game and were slated to play in Pensacola in 2020, but that game has been delayed until 2022.
Â
UWF will play its final non-conference game at home on Sept. 25 against the University of Fort Lauderdale. The Eagles launched their program in 2019 after a number of years as a club team.
Â
GSC play will commence with a pair of road games to Delta State and North Greenville the first two weekends of October. The Blue and Green are a combined 4-2 against the teams with two game winning streaks versus both the Statesmen and Crusaders.
Â
A pair of home games against West Georgia and Shorter will come on October 16 and 23, respectively.
Â
The Argonauts return to the Magnolia State on Oct. 30 when they face Mississippi College. UWF has won all four meetings since 2016, including a thrilling 27-21 overtime decision in 2019 at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Â
UWF hits the road for the final time in the regular-season on Nov. 5 with a trip to West Alabama. The Argos have won two of the last three in the series.
Â
Senior Day will see Valdosta State in Pensacola to conclude the schedule on Nov. 13. UWF and VSU split their two games in 2019 as the Blazers won the regular-season game before the Argonauts rallied for a 38-35 win in the NCAA Playoffs, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with six seconds left in the game.
Â
The NCAA Division II Championship begins a week later and ends with the title game on Dec. 18.
Â
UWF finished the 2019 season on a 6-game winning streak as they claimed the program's first national championship with a 48-40 win over Minnesota State. The Argos went 13-2 to complete one of the most remarkable postseason runs in NCAA history, defeating three No. 1 seeds and four-consecutive undefeated teams for the first time ever, en route to the University's 10th team national championship.
Â
The Argos averaged 5,301 fans at Blue Wahoos Stadium in 2019Â to rank among the top 25 in average home attendance for the fourth-consecutive season.
