West Florida Sweeps Christian Brothers to Push Win Streak to Six

Argonauts also improve to 5-0 in conference play with the victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a match that stretched late into the night, the West Florida Men's Tennis team took down Christian Brothers 7-0 to improve to 11-2 on the year. Additionally, this win keeps the Argonauts unbeaten in conference play as they are 5-0 with just three conference contests remaining.

West Florida now joins Valdosta State and West Alabama on top of the Gulf South Conference with each team still finding themselves unbeaten in the GSC on the season.

In doubles today, West Florida did enough to win from all three positions but needed some clutch tiebreaker wins to secure the point.

Nicolas Lecoutre and William Shkrob got the Argos started winning 6-0 from the No. 3 position to improve to 10-2 as a pair on the season. Salvador Bandeira and Gabriel Nery secured the doubles win with a 7-5 win from the No. 1 position. Adam Svensson and Lluis Miralles Miro finished doubles play with a 7-6 win from the No. 2 position to sweep the doubles portion.

"We played very well in doubles today," Head Coach Derrick Racine stated. "It was good to jump out to another early 1-0 lead in today's match."

Singles play was where the Argonauts shined today winning from all six positions in straight sets.

Serdar Bojadjiev continued his strong play of late winning 6-3, 7-6 from the No. 1 position. Lecoutre followed suit of Bojadjiev and won 6-2, 6-3 from the No. 2 position. Juan Motta continued the success from the top half of the lineup winning 6-2, 7-6 from the No. 3 position.

Nery playing from the No. 4 position kept the momentum rolling for the bottom half of the lineup winning 6-4,6-1 from his match. Svennson and Miro also picked up singles wins themselves from the No. 5 and No. 6 positions to sweep the singles portion and give the Argonauts the 7-0 victory on the day.

"Singles play was very tight and it was a great competitive match for us," Coach Racine noted. "Christian Brothers are vastly improved and the Gulf South Conference has turned into a super competitive tennis conference. There are no weak teams and you have to be on top of your game each and every match."

West Florida will now return to Pensacola for a very short break before hitting the road again on Friday to take on Valdosta State and North Georgia on the weekend.
