Solid Play Throughout the Lineup Propels West Florida Past Rival Valdosta State

Argonauts win the doubles point and pick up five singles victories in route to win

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Florida Women's Tennis Team continued their dominance in conference play today taking down Valdosta State 6-1 to improve to remain unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play on the season. Overall the Argonauts now move to 9-3 on the season including a 6-0 record in conference play with just four matches remaining in the regular season.

In doubles, West Florida continued their recent success winning from all three positions to claim the lone point for the third consecutive match.

Karolina Silwanowicz and Samantha Echevarria started things off for the Argonauts winning 6-1 in their match from the No. 2 position. Similarly, Irene Recuenco and Raissa Wagner won 6-1 as well from the No. 3 position to secure the point for West Florida. Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin faced the biggest challenge in doubles today but ultimately came out with the 7-5 victory from the No. 1 position to secure the doubles sweep.

This success followed the Argonauts into singles play as they picked up five straight-set victories to secure this big conference win for West Florida.

Bonardi was back to her winning ways today securing a 6-3, 6-2 victory from the No. 1 position to improve to 9-2 on the season. Recuenco, Silwanowicz, and Echevarria all picked up their third-straight victory securing wins from the No. 2, 4, and 5 positions on the day. The final singles victory came from Wagner as she picked up her fifth win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win in today's match.

"The girls played very well today," Head Coach Derrick Racine noted. "They jumped on the doubles portion and won from all three positions. They were able to carry the momentum over to singles and picked up big wins in five of the six singles matches".

Now done with one of two matches on the weekend, West Florida will look to carry today's momentum into tomorrow when they square off with No. 16 North Georgia.
