VALDOSTA, Ga. – In the final match of the current road trip, the West Florida Women's Tennis Team continued their recent success winning 5-2 over No. 16 North Georgia. This win sees the Argonauts extend their current win streak to four as well as push their overall record to 10-3 on the season.
It was another solid day for West Florida in doubles play as they take down the Nighthawks from two of the three positions to secure the lone point.
Karolina Silwanowicz and
Samantha Echevarria picked up the Argos first victory winning 6-2 as the No. 2 pairing. West Florida's decisive victory came from the No. 1 pairing as
Berta Bonardi and
Sara Yigin secured their ninth win a pair taking down Jorge/Lippert 6-4 in today's match.
With the doubles point now secured for the fourth consecutive match, the Argonauts now moved to singles play where they picked up some huge wins throughout the lineup.
From the top half of the lineup Bonardi and Yigin both secured victories from the No. 1 and the No. 3 positions to get West Florida off to a great start in singles play. Bonardi defeated Vaishali Jorge 6-0, 6-0 from the No. 1 position to move to 10-2 in singles play on the season. Yigin playing from the No. 3 position beat Cibeles Zuddy 6-1, 6-4 to improve her singles record to 9-1 overall.
Silwanowicz and Echevarria picked up the Argonauts from the bottom half of the lineup wining from the No. 4 and No. 5 positions to secure the win for West Florida. Silwanowicz picked up her fourth singles victory in a row winning 6-4, 6-0 from the No. 4 position. Echevarria won a hard-fought match defeating Labonte Frey 7-5, 6-4 from the No. 5 position.
"The girls once again pulled out a great match against a very solid team," Head Coach
Derrick Racine stated. "We got some key wins from Berta, Sara, Karolina, and Samantha to take the match 5-2".
This is now the third top-25 team the Argonauts have taken down this season and gives them great momentum heading into another huge matchup on Monday when No. 10 West Alabama comes to town. Set to begin at 1 PM on Monday, West Alabama will be the sixth top-25 team West Florida has taken on this season and will be a huge match for conference seeding with just a few matches left in the regular season.
