Argonauts Set to Take on Mississippi College and West Georgia in Back-to-Back Days

Matches to be played on Sunday and Monday after being moved due to weather in the area

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida Women's Tennis team, who has won four of their past five matches, will be back at home this weekend to play a couple of Gulf South Conference contests. On Sunday, Mississippi College comes to town to face the Argonauts at 1 PM then on Monday West Georgia will square off with West Florida at 9 AM from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

As the No. 8 ranked team in the latest ITA poll, West Florida has found some great success this season including wins over three ranked opponents so far on the season. With a record of 10-4 overall, the Argonauts will look to build some momentum heading into the postseason as just one match remains in the regular season after this weekend for West Florida.

About West Florida – The Argonauts are coming off of a stretch of five matches in which they achieved a 4-1 record including three wins over conference opponents. Over this stretch of matches, West Florida played great in doubles picking up the lone point in all five contests.

As the newly ranked No. 5 doubles pair in the nation, Berta Bonardi and Sara Yigin lead the way for West Florida in doubles combining for a 10-2 record on the season. In addition to these two, Karolina Silwanowicz and partner Samantha Echevarria have gone 8-2 as a pair to serve as a great complement to Bonardi and Yigin in the lineup.

In singles, the Argonauts rely on strong play from the top of their lineup to push them past many opponents they have faced.

Bonardi as the No. 2 ranked player in the nation serves as a great No. 1 for the Argonauts with an 11-2 record to show for her efforts this season. Irene Recuenco playing from the No. 2 position has gone 10-4 so far this season which was good enough for her to be ranked as the No. 26 singles player in the nation.

About Mississippi College – The Lady Choctaws head to Pensacola with a 3-4 record so far this season including a 2-2 mark in conference play. This will be the ninth matchup all-time between the Lady Choctaws and the Argonauts with West Florida taking all eight of the previous matches.

In doubles, Mississippi College has won the lone point in four out of their seven matches and are bolstered by strong play from the middle of their lineup. Alisa Morozova and partner Anna Didkovska have gone 5-2 from the No. 2 position for the Lady Choctaws and are a tough matchup for whomever they face.

Singles play sees Mississippi college with a record of 22-19 on the season including winning records for each of their top four positions. Didkovska has had the most success in singles for the Lady Choctaws going 5-2 on the season playing from the No. 3 position.

About West Georgia – With an overall record of 3-6 the Wolves have a busy weekend as well as they are scheduled to play three conference matches in nearly 24 hours.

In doubles, the Wolves are 9-18 overall and have won the lone point in three of their nine matches. Elle Jones and Kennedy Lewis have found the this season for West Georgia going 3-1 from the No. 3 position so far this season.

Camille Portalier has been a great addition to this West Georgia team as she has gone 7-2 from the No. 1 position so far on the year. It should be a great match between her and Bonardi on Monday will both players looking to secure a huge point from the top of the singles lineup.

Schedule for the Matches – Action is scheduled to begin at 1 PM (CST) on Sunday with both the Men's and Women's teams taking on Mississippi College from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. Montevallo Makeup – Originally scheduled for Mar. 25, the home match against Montevallo has been scheduled to be made up on April 16 at 10 AM from the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. Barring any additional changes, this will be the final regular-season match for both teams before they begin postseason play the week after.
