OXFORD, Ala.Evan Floyd threw a complete-game shutout, while the UWF offense used a balanced-attack to blank West Georgia, 6-0, in the opening game of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Friday night..

Third-ranked West Florida will now play Alabama Huntsville at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Choccolocco Park with their win today.

"Evan set for the tone for us", UWF Head Coach Mike Jeffcoat said.  "He was in command all game long. Miller (Hancock) was huge for us, along with Tyler's (Dowdy) home run. Their starter was tough but we eventually adjusted and broke through which gave us the confidence we needed."

Floyd (8-1), a right-hander from Pensacola Catholic, was in control from the start of the game as he went nine innings, only allowing three hits and one walk while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts on 110 pitches as he lowered his earned run average to 2.78.  Evan also struck out 11 batters on March 20th against Christian Brothers.

The righty got off to a quick start as he struck out three batters in the first inning.  He also fanned two batters in the second and one in the third.  Floyd faced minimal trouble in the match-up, but when he did he would induce double-plays to get out of any jam as he earned three in the contest.

UWF's offense got on the board in the first thanks to a Dylan Menhennett single that scored Miller Hancock and put the Argos up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.  West Florida would strike again in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Tyler Dowdy, his first career home run, and the 30th this year by UWF.

With the hit in the bottom of the frame, Menhennett extended his hitting streak to 27, which is two away from tying Stephen Jackson for the all-time mark in program history.  Dylan would again strike in the bottom of the sixth as he singled to left field this time, bringing home O'Shea and Hancock to make it 4-0.  Menhennett would score later in the inning on a single by Matt Estrada.

UWF added one more in bottom of the seventh as Hancock singled home Justin Dunnam, who had doubled earlier in the inning.

Robert Coleman got the start for UWG as the right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, while allowing two walks and three strikeouts.  Brody Wortham and Lane Griffith each had a hit for the Wolves, with Wortham having the only extra-base hit for West Georgia.

Menhennett and Dunnam each had two hits for UWF, with Hancock having two runs scored.
