PENSACOLA, Fla. – After another great weekend from the FMU Invitational, the University of West Florida Volleyball Team will have very little downtime before hitting the road tonight for their first Gulf South Conference matchup of the season.

Now 11-1 on the young season, the No. 16 ranked Argonauts will look to pick up right where they left off in the 2019 season in which they went a perfect 16-0 in regular-season conference play on the year.

Playing familiar foe Valdosta State from the Peach State, West Florida will be put to the test right away against a very solid Blazer team.

About West Florida: The Argonauts are off to one of their best starts in program history starting 11-1 on the season including ten wins coming via a 3-0 sweep.

Running an offense that feeds many different players and positions on the court, West Florida has risen the ranks of many conference categories both individually and as a team.

Individually, Madi Cooler and Veresia Yon lead the way for the Argonauts on offense with Cooler ranking first in the GSC in kills (4.16) and points (4.61) while Yon ranks sixth in the conference in kills (3.03) and third in points (4.07). Setter Taylor Vaneekeren has been a key factor in this success averaging 10.16 assists per set so far on the season to lead the GSC.

On the defensive end of play, West Florida has been one of the premier blocking teams in the nation this season limiting their opponents to the lowest hitting % in the conference.

With Yon and Jenna Zydlo ranking first and second in blocks per set in the conference, their success has been a big reason for the Argonauts limiting their opponents to just a .112 hitting % on the season. Additionally, Senior libero Ashton Marshall has also played at a high level to start the year ranking sixth in the GSC in digs per set including surpassing her 1,000 career dig this past weekend.

About Valdosta State: Picked ninth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll, Valdosta State enters the matchup with a record of 6-6 after their opening three weeks of non-conference play. This includes a 2-1 record in this last weekend's play recording 138 kills on a .169 hitting percentage along with 134 assists and 13 aces.

Freshman outside Kylie Stroehlein has jumped onto the collegiate scene with authority for the Blazers leading the team in kills (109) and points (131.5) through their 12 matches played. In addition to Stroehlein, Jessie Mooney and Deona Mims have also impressed this season each averaging over two kills per set on the year.

Lyara Rosario handles libero duties for the Blazers and has already picked up over 200 digs this season to average 4.69 per set. On the blocking front, Kennedy DeLuca and Grace Daugherty lead the charge with over 30 blocks each so far this season.

Tuesday's Schedule: First serve is slated for 5 pm (CST) from The Complex in Valdosta, Georgia. Links to both the live stream as well as live stats can be found on our website GoArgos.com as well as our social media platforms.
