PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 13th-ranked University of West Florida women's soccer team picked up a commanding win over Spring Hill on Friday evening, taking a 5-0 victory over the Badgers.
With the win, UWF improved to 12-2-1 on the year with a Gulf South Conference-best 10-1 record in the league. Friday also marked West Florida's 11th shutout in 15 games this season.
Blair Cowan got the scoring started for UWF with a pair of goals in the first 24 minutes, giving her a GSC-leading 16 on the year. Those 16 goals are the most for an Argonaut since 2012, when Chelsea Palmer also found the net 16 times.
Cowan's first of the day came in the 12th minute, when she drove a left-footed shot into the left edge of the goal. She stretched the UWF lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute with a goal right in front of the net after a great run down the left side from
Brianna Pope, who was credited with the assist.
Manami Okada scored UWF's third goal, which came off her header following a perfectly placed cross from
Julia Comin in the 30th minute. That was Okada's fifth goal of the year.
West Florida picked up another goal on a header from
Kaytlyn Larsen – her second of the year – off a corner kick from
Ahnalie Layman.
The final goal of the night for West Florida came on a low shot from
Destiny Hird, who found the corner of the net to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Argonauts outshot Spring Hill 29-1 and had 16 shots on goal.
UWF is back in action on Friday, October 21, when the Argonauts host Delta State at the UWF Soccer Complex. For all information on the team, follow @UWFWSOC on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
