Pensacola, Fla. --- In a fast pace, yet controlled match Friday night, the No. 12 ranked University of West Florida women's soccer team hit double digits in the winning streak to extend to ten straight against GSC opponents after a 2-0 defeat against Delta State.

The last time the Argos reached ten straight wins was in 2018 when the team never lost a game until the NCAA tournament in the South Region semifinal.

Ahnalie Layman out wide for an opportunity to attack. Layman took on a Statesmen defender to find an opening to sink it in the top corner of the net.

The match continued to be fairly even as both teams saw action on their attacking sides often.

The fast-paced game between the Argos (13-2-1 overall, 11-1 GSC) and the Statesmen (9-6-2 overall, 6-4-2 GSC) contained a total of six shots on goal with the Argos have a 5-1 advantage.

The Argos secured the win in the 84
th minute thanks to defender
Destiny Hird. As the Argos entered the attacking third, a Statesmen player attempted to clear the ball but kicked to the feet of Hird at the 25-yard line who then hit a solid shot on the ground to fly past the goalkeeper.

This is the junior's second goal of the season which has come in back-to-back games.

Blair Cowan led the team with three shots apiece and eight UWF players stayed on the pitch all 90 minutes that included
Kileigh Whited who made it difficult for the Statesmen to maintain possession at times from the beginning whistle to the end.

The Argos head into Sunday's match looking to be crowned regular season conference champions. Sunday will be a top-20 contest and top-two seed GSC game as No. 20 Mississippi College head to the UWF Soccer Complex Sunday, Oct. 23 at 3:00 p.m. The winner of the of the match will win the title.
