PENSACOLA, Fla. – Senior Night at West Florida was celebrated with a win over West Alabama on Saturday afternoon, as the Argos hit the second-highest percentage in school history .587 in the match.
UWF (24-5, 14-1) clinched the program's 14th GSC regular-season title and will host the final three rounds of the GSC Championship at the UWF Field House, November 11-13.
The only other time a UWF team hit as well as this group did on Saturday was when the 2012 squad hit .600 at Union.
The Argos attack finished with three players who recorded seven or more kills this afternoon (Kierra Potts 7, Jenna Dufresne 9, Camila Vazquez 12). The Argos out-hit the Tigers .587-.043 for the match.
The first set featured a fierce Argos attack which set the tone early on for the match by outhitting the Tigers .647 to -.091.
The Argos quickly jumped out to a 14-5 lead behind 4 of Vazquez's match high 12 kills before closing out the set 25-8.
Set two was also another aggressive offensive display, as the Argos shot out to a 9-2 lead over the Tigers before finishing out the set 25-12 to take a 2-0 sets lead in the match. The second frame was highlighted by a stellar performance from Jenna Dufresne as she tallied 3 kills and 6 digs in the set to go along with senior Taylor Vaneekeren's 15 assists.
The third and final set proved to be the most dominant for the Argos this afternoon as they started the set on an 8-0 run before dropping their first point, only to go on to win the set 25-6 and collect the straight sets victory 3-0. The victory marks their 14th straight-set victory of the year.
UWF returns to action next Friday night against Auburn Montgomery in their final game of the regular season.
