PENSACOLA, Fla.- The West Florida Men's Soccer Team hit the road this weekend for more Gulf South Conference play with matches against Lee on Friday and Shorter on Sunday.
The Argonauts enter these matchups with a 6-2-2 overall record and 4-0-2 GSC record.
About UWF
Last weekend, the Argonauts had two big wins over Auburn Montgomery 2-1 on Friday and No. 10 ranked Montevallo 2-1 on Sunday.
UWF currently ranks No. 2 in the conference standings after going undefeated last weekend. Standout
Kainan Dos Santos leads the conference in shots taken with 35 and averages 3.50 goals.
The Argonauts rank No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll in the South Region.
Kendrick Hernandez and
Fynn Geigle recently earned GSC weekly honors after a phenomenal weekend against AUM and Montevallo. As a freshman, Hernandez is the second leading scorer for the Argos with three. He received GSC Freshman of the Week for the first time this season. The Pensacola native recorded the first goal for the Argos against Montevallo with a dribble past the UM goalkeeper, putting UWF on the board first 1-0.
Freshman
Fynn Geigle received GSC Defender of the Week after holding the Argo defense steady against two difficult GSC opponent's last weekend. Geigle has started and played all ten games for UWF this season and leads the team in assists (4). He had a major assist against Montevallo off a free kick to
Jack Patching, who kicked the ball into the lower right corner of the net in the 87
th minute. The Argos went up 2-1 to finish the game with a victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

The Flames are 6-2-1 on the season and 4-2 in GSC play. Lee ranks No. 5 in the conference as Fabian Navarro leads the conference in assists (8) and Eemell Makela is second in the conference with five. Sophomore Navarro has been a key asset to this Lee team as he leads the team in assists (8), and points (14). Graduate student Makela and senior Caio Arantes lead the Flames in goals with four each.
The Flames have tallied three shutouts this season. Goalkeeper Sam Keener is in the net for the Flames as he records seven saves on the season with 538 minutes.
Lee is ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll in the South Region. Derek Potteiger is in his sixth season as head coach of the Flames.

The last time these two teams have faced off was in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship in 2021 with UWF defeating the Flames 2-1 to win their 10
th conference championship since 2013.
Bernardo Torres and
Ed Chappe tallied one goal each to defeat the Flames. Four Argonauts were named to the GSC All-Tournament team.
The overall record between these two squads is 6-2-4 with the Argos holding a two-game win streak.

The Hawks are 3-6 and 0-4 in the conference entering in the middle of the 2022 season. Shorter standout Mattia Maiello leads the Hawks in goals (7) and points (15). Maiello leads the conference in points with 20. He tallies an averages 1.88 goals per game and has been an important component of this Hawks team. Paul Furey is at the helm of the Shorter Men's Soccer Team.

The last time these two teams faced off was in 2019 with the game ending in a 3-3 draw. The overall record is 6-2-2 with the Argos having the upper hand.
