Dos Santos and Argonauts Soar Past Hawks 5-1

The Brazilian native had two assists and one goal

ROME, Ga.- Two goals in the first half and three in the second lifted the West Florida Men's Soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Shorter on Sunday afternoon for their last road conference game. The Argos improve to 7-2-3, 5-0-3 GSC and the Hawks fall to 3-8, 0-6 GSC.

UWF took control of the game early on with a goal by Keegan Ancelin from eight yards out in the third minute of play. This marks Ancelin's first goal of the season. Not even two minutes later, Jack Patching found the net to increase the Argo lead to 2-0. Kainan Dos Santos tallied the assists for both goals.

West Florida outshot the Hawks 7-1 in the first half as Fynn Geigle and Keegan Lynch held up the backline of the Argo defense. Hawks goalkeeper Javy Flores held the Shorter defense with three saves in the first half. Flores had his first save in the 14th minute when he came face-to-face against midfielder Caue Novaes. Flores would later face Josiah Fontenot in the 33rd minute to tally another save. In total, Flores recorded four saves.

The Hawks cut the lead in half when Mattia Maiello broke through traffic to send the ball into the lower right corner of the net. Heading into the half, the Argos remained on top 2-1.

The Argos came out of the break pressing, firing off a shot taken by Finn Werner in the 47th minute of play. Werner had a second chance to score in the 55th minute as he slid the ball past the Shorter goalkeeper to increase the margin 3-1.

Standout Dos Santos had his first goal of the game in the 59th minute as he shot from six yards out. This increased the lead to 5-1 heading into the last thirty minutes of regulation. The Brazilian native had an exceptional game with two assists and one goal to lead the Argos to victory.

Shorter only took one shot in the first half due to the strong Argonaut backline. West Florida recorded twelve shots total to the Hawks two. The Argos had nine shots on goal and four corner kicks while the Hawks had one shot on goal and two corners.

UWF will be back on their home field next weekend for Bark at the Park against Spring Hill on Saturday, Oct. 15.
