UWF Gets Their Revenge Over Lee and Advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

Pensacola, Fla. --- In their third meeting with the Lee Flames this season, the University of West Florida women's soccer team takes the win 1-0 and advances to the NCAA Championship South Region Second Round.

Blair Cowan's lone goal in the 10th minute was the game-winning goal for the No. 3 Argos to defeat No. 6 Lee to take the season series 2-1.

Cowan received the ball just at the half and flew a shot from 50-yards out to soar it over the Lee goalkeeper who was out of her line to score her 20th goal of the season.

It was a physical battle as 31 fouls were called and majority of possession was around the half-line – difficult to advance to the goals of each team.

In the 29th minute, the Argos had a wide open opportunity to extend the lead as Julia Comin beat defenders to pass off to Cowan for a one-on-one with the goalkeeper – Cowan's shot was just wide.

Argos out shot Lee 12-4 and held to Lee with two shots on goal while the Argos advanced six on target.

Cowan led the team with three shots followed by Manami Okada and Kileigh Whited who hit two apiece.

Maciah Lipsey recorded two saves and earned her 14 shut out on the season. The Argos are the second least scored on team in Division II.

Up next for the Argos is another home game at the UWF Soccer Complex, hosting 2-seed Nova Southeastern Saturday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m.
