PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF men's basketball team suffered an 85-67 loss to a hot-shooting Lee team on Saturday at the UWF Field House.
UWF (2-2, 0-2 Gulf South) shot 44 percent and made 16-of-19 free throws. The Argonauts were led in scoring by Daniel Sofield and Jaz Farrell with 12 points each. Both players made two 3-pointers as well and Sofield had seven assists.
Lee (1-1, 1-1) ended the game at 53 percent shooting with Jayce Willingham leading all scorers with 21 points on 10-of-14 from the floor.
"Credit to Lee… I thought they ran their offense hard and well," UWF head coach Jeff Burkhamer said. "We do have a little bit to build on from the second half. We showed a little bit more fight and played better. We helped each other defensively and did a good job of moving the ball and throwing it inside."
Lee shot 65 percent in the first half and made seven 3-pointers on its way to a 52-26 lead. The Argonauts battled back and got to within 15 points but were unable to overtake the Flames.
UWF will step out of conference play on Tuesday afternoon with a game against Tuskegee (5-0). That contest will begin at 2 p.m. at the UWF Field House.
