UWF Cruises Past Delta State, 63-39

The Argos had two scoring runs of 10-0 and another of 12-0.

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Jaclyn Jarnot had a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the UWF women's basketball team to a dominating 63-39 road win over Delta State at Sillers Coliseum Monday.

UWF (2-3, 2-2 Gulf South) made six 3-pointers in the first half and used a pair of 10-0 runs to keep the Lady Statesmen at a good distance while snapping a 2-game losing skid.

The Argonauts had 30 points in the paint and held a commanding 42-23 rebounding edge. They also had 13 assists come from eight different players.

"We worked hard tonight to stick with our game plan," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "That discipline paid off in a number of situations. Even though we lost the third quarter on the scoreboard, I was proud of the way the girls came back and dominated in the fourth."

Jarnot made 8-of-15 while frontcourt mate Zoe Piller was 7-of-11 on her way to 14 points and seven boards.

The Argonauts scored the game's first eight points and raced out to a 18-2 lead while getting production from six different players. Haylee Luttrell made a pair of triples as part of a 10- run in the second quarter that saw the margin grow to 23 before taking a 33-11 edge into the locker room.

The Lady Statesmen battled to within 14 late in the third and 11 early in the fourth, but the Argos responded with a 12-0 run to put the game away.

DSU (2-6, 1-3) shot 22 percent and never had an answer for the UWF inside presence. Alanna Smith led DSU with 15 points and five rebounds.

UWF will continue on its 4-game road trip, traveling to Columbus State (4-1) on Friday evening. Tip-off at the Lumpkin Center in Columbus, Georgia is at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
