Jarnot Leads UWF To 79-72 Win Over CBU

The Argo senior had 33 points and 20 rebounds

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Jaclyn Jarnot had 33 points and 20 rebounds to lead the UWF women's basketball team to a 79-72 victory over Christian Brothers at the UWF Field House on Sunday.

Not only was Jarnot's scoring output a career-high and the most in the Gulf South Conference this season, she recorded her eighth-consecutive double-double with the second 20-20 game of her career.

"We started off a little rough and I felt it was on me to pick us back up," Jarnot said. "When I see one fall, I just gain confidence and they were falling tonight. And then we found our groove."

UWF (5-4, 5-2) extended its winning streak to three games and won its seventh-straight over CBU in Pensacola.

The Argonauts shot 43 percent, made five 3-pointers and was 28-for-39 for 72 percent at the free throw line. They also held a 48-28 rebounding edge with 17 offensive boards that contributed to 15 second chance points.

"At the beginning of the game I thought our defensive rebounding was really good, but our offense was very labored," UWF head coach Stephanie Lawrence Yelton said. "And then we got into a stretch (in the second quarter) where the game settled in nicely for us.

"In the second half, CBU made some adjustments and tried to take away our strength – which tonight was Jaclyn. And then kudos to (Jaclyn) for being able to get back into the scoring groove. And that's what a top player in the country does."

Zoe Piller notched her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Haylee Luttrell and Jayden Langford finished with nine points each.

UWF came out and dominated the first half, building a 46-30 lead, using a 10 run in the first quarter and an 8-0 run late in the second.

But the Lady Bucs fought back and pulled within 49-47 midway through the third. UWF responded with a 9-0 run to put the lead back into double digits. The margin never got closer than five the rest of the game.

CBU (3-5, 1-4) was led by Selena Pruitt and Emily Jones who finished with 16 apiece.

UWF will return to play next Sunday when it plays host to Valdosta State. Tip-off at the UWF Field House is at 2 p.m.
