Nobles Announces Five Additions to UWF Football Coaching Staff

The staff has more than 60 years of coaching experience at all levels of college football

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF head football coach Kaleb Nobles has announced the first half of his coaching staff for the 2023 season.

Steve Saulnier and Ron Dickerson, Jr. are both staying on the staff while being joined by a pair of former staffers in Jordan Remsza and Joe Wintrick and a former Division I and NFL performer in Kavell Conner.

Ron Dickerson, Jr. – Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach
After spending the 2022 season as UWF's Wide Receivers Coach and Director of Football Operations, Dickerson is being promoted to Offensive Coordinator.

"We are excited to have Coach Dickerson at the University of West Florida," Nobles said. "His leadership and experience will be a valuable asset to the entire program and our offense at UWF."

In 2022, the Argonauts' receiver corps averaged 207.9 yards per game on 178 receptions. The group of 13 receivers, three running backs and a tight end combined for 35 touchdowns and a school-record 16.4 yards per reception.

Dickerson has nearly 25 years of coaching experience, including two seasons as a Division I head coach and six as a coordinator.

Steve Saulnier – Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach
One of the original coaches in program history remains at UWF as Saulnier moves into his 10th year in Pensacola in 2023 as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Line Coach. The O-line unit had another dominating season in 2022, averaging 441.9 yards of total offense (15th nationally) and a school-record 233.9 rushing yards per game to rank seventh in the country. The group was also 11th in Division 2 in fewest sacks allowed with 14.

"We are very thrilled to keep Steve Saulnier at the University of West Florida," Nobles said. "His leadership and love for his players and the entire University is evident and we are excited for the future with Steve."

In six seasons with the Argos, Saulnier has mentored three All-Americans, seven All-Region and 10 All-Conference performers.

Saulnier has more than 25 years of coaching experience at all levels, including six seasons as a head coach and the last 14 as a Division 2 assistant head coach.

Kavell Conner – Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach
Conner joins the program following two seasons working with the defense at Clemson University. He worked with the linebackers and was on the field during games while with the Tigers.

"Kavell and I worked together at Clemson and he brings Division I and NFL experience as a player and coach," Nobles said. "He will bring a toughness and aggressiveness to the defense that we are looking for at UWF."

Conner was a productive linebacker at Clemson from 2005-09, leading the Tigers in tackles in both 2008 and 2009. He earned the team's strength and conditioning award in his final two seasons and served as a captain on Clemson's 2009 squad, which earned the program's first ACC Championship Game berth.

After being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Conner played six NFL seasons from 2010-15. He appeared in 78 career games with the Colts (2010-13) and San Diego Chargers (2014-15) before spending the 2016 preseason with the Baltimore Ravens and the 2017 season with the Canadian Football League's Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was a 2010 NFL All-Rookie selection.

Conner earned a degree in sociology from Clemson in 2009.

Jordan Remsza – Special Teams Coordinator/Secondary Coach
Remsza returns to UWF where he spent three years as a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball working with the outside linebackers from 2019-21. Nobles has tabbed him as the Special Teams Coordinator and he will also coach the Argonauts' secondary.

"Jordan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as a coach," Nobles said. "He has been here as part of multiple playoff and championship runs at UWF and we look forward to his leadership on both our defense and special teams units."

Remsza spent the 2022 season at Quincy (Ill.) University as Defensive Backs Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. As Defensive Backs Coach, he mentored and developed a group that had two players named to the GLVC All-Conference teams.

In the Spring of 2022, Remsza worked at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama as the Recruiting Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach.

In 2021, Remsza led a UWF Outside Linebackers group that saw Trent Archie become a First Team All-GSC performer at Nickel Back. The Argos also won their first GSC Championship, while securing a the team's third NCAA Playoff appearance.

In the 2019 Division II National Championship season, the Argonauts led the country with 24 fumbles recovered and were second in country in turnovers forced with 37. Remsza's OLB room piled up 18 sacks, led by eight from Gael Laurent and six from Archie, who also earned First Team All-GSC honors that season.

Remsza also spent three years coaching at Independence Community College and Avila University from 2017 to the Spring of 2019. Remsza graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and History from Ripon (Wisc.) College in 2016.

Joe Wintrick – Running Backs/Tight Ends Coach/Director of Football Operations
Wintrick returns to UWF as the Running Backs and Tight Ends Coach following a year at Division I FBS Louisiana-Monroe under head coach Terry Bowden. He served as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach and assisted the Offensive Coordinator in the press box on game days.

"Joe brings both playing and coaching experience as an Argonaut and knows what it looks like to win a championship doing things the right way," Nobles said. "We look forward to Joe and his family being back with the Argonaut family in Pensacola."

In his first coaching stint at UWF, Wintrick coached the tight ends from January 2020 to the of Spring 2022. Maverick Wolfley finished with a 13.7 yards per catch average - the highest by a TE in program history. As a 3-year letterwinner for the Argonauts from 2017-19, Wintrick started 37 games, including 10 NCAA Playoff contests. He earned Second Team All-Region and All-GSC as a senior in 2019.
