PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team returns to play this weekend, making road trips to Montevallo and Auburn Montgomery. Saturday's game at UM is set to start at 2 p.m. and Monday's tilt in Montgomery is a 1 p.m. tip.

ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 5-5 on the season and 5-3 in the Gulf South Conference, sitting in fifth place in the 13-team league.
* The Argonauts had won three-in-a-row prior to a 60-56 loss to Valdosta State on December 18. Overall, UWF has won four of its last six games after a 1-3 start.
* UWF is fifth in the GSC in scoring offense (65.5 points per game) and sixth in scoring defense (60.7 ppg). The Argos have scored at least 70 points five times this season and are 4-1 in those contests. Among the team's other four defeats, they have failed to score more than 60 points in regulation in any of them.

DOING TO DAMAGE INSIDE
* UWF has made a living with dominant inside play the past two years, led by the one-two punch of
Jaclyn Jarnot and
Zoe Piller. This year they have combined for 31.9 points and 23 rebounds per game.
* As a team, UWF has averaged 33.1 points in the paint this season, with three games surpassing 40 points.Â

UWF CONTINUES TO BE A REBOUND FORCE UNDER YELTON
*Â UWF has finished first or second in rebounding in the GSC in all 11 seasons underÂ

*Â This season the Argos have grabbed at least 40 boards in their first nine games and rank 14th nationally with 44.0 rebounds per game - first in the GSC.
* UWF has had a double-digit rebound margin in seven of 10 games this year, including six of the last seven.
JARNOT THRIVING IN FINAL COLLEGE SEASON
* It's hard to imaging UWF senior forward
Jaclyn Jarnot having a better season statistically than a year ago when she had 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game while totaling 14 blocks and 32 steals. She also shot 45 pct. from the floor.
* But in 2022-23, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota product has increased her averages in nearly every category, posting 17.8 ppg, 13.8 rpg while shooting 48 pct. overall. She already has 11 blocks and 27 steals with 17 regular-season games remaining on the schedule.
* Jarnot has posted a double-double in the last nine games and led the team in scoring six times and rebounding eight times.
* She was the D2 National Player of the Week for the second week in December when she led the Argos to wins over No. 5 Union and Christian Brothers. She averaged 28.5 points and 18.0 rebounds in those contests. She had 24 points and 16 boards with three 3-pointers against the previously undefeated Bulldogs before posting a career-high 33 points and 20 rebounds versus the Lady Bucs two days later. She totaled seven assists, five steals and two blocks as well.

JARNOT A DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE
* Senior forward
Jaclyn Jarnot leads the GSC and ranks third nationally with nine double-doubles.
* She finished the 2021-22 season with 18 to rank fifth in the country. That was also the fourth-highest single-season total in UWF history.
WELCOME BACK JEN!
* Saturday's game will be a homecoming for UWF graduate student
Jennifer Andrew. The Birmingham native spent her undergraduate career at Montevallo from 2018-22 where she compiled 536 points, 235 rebounds, 59 steals and 49 assists in 96 games for the Falcons.
42ND SEASON OF UWF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
* UWF enters the weekend with 612Â all-time wins dating back 40-plus years to the inaugural season of 1981-82. The Argonauts are 612-531Â all-time with six NCAA Tournament appearances, one Elite Eight, four GSC Regular-Season Championships and one GSC tourney title in 19 appearances.
* In 29 seasons of NCAA/GSC membership, the program is 436-337 for a .564 winning pct., ranking fifth among current members and third among those that have been in the league for at least 10 seasons.

YELTON IN SEASON 11 AT UWF

Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her 11th season at UWF and has a 173-119 record with the Argos … She is 230-203 in her 16th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the 1994 title game.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
* She is 6-6 against Montevallo and 11-2 against AUM.

ABOUT MONTEVALLO
* The Falcons are 4-9 overall and 4-5 in GSC play. After an 0-6 start, they have alternated wins and losses the past seven outings. UM is 2-5 at Trustmark Arena and 2-4 on the road.
* UM averages 64.2 ppg on 36 percent shooting, with 32 percent from outside and 8.7 3-pointers per game.
* They average just 32.2 rebounds per game and have been outrebounded in 12 of 13 games.
* Senior guard Marisa Snodgrass is their top performer, averaging 12.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game – all team-highs.
* Gary Van Atta is in his 14th season at UM, and his seventh in his second stint – he also was the head coach from 1989-96.

* UWF is 35-23 against Montevallo with the first 26 of those games coming when both teams were NAIA members and UM led the series 21-5 from 1982-94.
* Since UWF moved to NCAA status in 1994, they are 27-14 against UM. UWF is 16-13 in games played at Montevallo, snapping a 3-game losing skid with 76-74 win last February.Â
ABOUT AUBURN MONTGOMERY
* AUM is 4-8 on the season and 3-6 in GSC action heading into Saturday's game vs. Valdosta State.Â
* AUM is scoring 72.2 points per game which is second in the GSC. The Warhawks are fourth in field goal percentage at 43 percent, 32 percent from beyond the arc and 73 percent at the FT Line – all of which rank in the top five in the GSC.
* Sophomore guard Allasha Dudley has continued her strong play from a season ago (10.6 ppg as a freshman), leading the team with 12.5 points per game. Junior guard Jemeriah Moore is second in scoring (10.7 ppg) and paces the team with 8.7 rebounds, 50 assists and 35 steals.
* Steve Kenner is in his first season as the interim head coach, taking over in May of 2022 after one season as an assistant under previous coach Sean Page. Kenner has prior head coaching experience at Emory & Henry, Southeastern Illinois and Pratt CC.Â

UWF-AUM SERIES HISTORY
* UWF is 11-2 against AUM since the Falcons moved from NAIA to NCAA Division 2 in 2016. The Argos are 4-2 at the UWF Field House and 7-0 at the AUM Gymnasium. Both losses have been by one possession – 52-49 in 2020-21 and 63-61 in 2019-20.
UWF PICKED 4TH IN GSC COACHES POLL, JARNOT NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* UWF was picked to finish fourth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … UWF earned 107 poll points and was behind Union, Lee and Valdosta State in the top three spots, respectively. That trio earned 12 of the 13 first place votes. The remaining vote went to Alabama Huntsville despite being picked tenth by the consensus. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and West Alabama were the remaining ones in the upper half, followed in order by Delta State, Montevallo, UAH, West Georgia, AUM and Shorter.

Jaclyn Jarnot was named to the 5-member preseason all-GSC squad. She returns for her final go-around as an Argonaut following a First Team All-GSC and All-Region season a year ago. In 2021-22, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native averaged 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while recording 18 double-doubles in 25 games. Her rebounding avg. and double-double totals were each fifth nationally in Division 2.
