PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The UWF women's basketball team will open a 3-game homestand this weekend, welcoming No. 5 Union and Christian Brothers to the UWF Field House for a pair of tough Gulf South Conference contests.

* Santa Claus will be at Friday's game and will be taking pictures for free in the lobby of the UWF Field House.
ABOUT UWF
* UWF is 3-4 on the season following a weekend split with Columbus State and West Georgia.
* The Argos are averaging 64 points on 38 percent shooting. The team shot just 13 percent in the opener against No. 11 Eckerd but has made 42.6 percent in the six games since, including a season-high 52.6 percent in the 77-49 win over UWG on Sunday.
* UWF has averaged six made 3-pointers in the last six games, shooting a season-high 43.8 percent on 7-of-16 at Delta State. Graduate transfer
Haylee Luttrell paces the team with 16 3-pointers and is sixth in the GSC at 40.0 shooting from outside. Her 2.3 triples per game is third in the league.
PILLER EARNS GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
* UWF women's basketball standout
Zoe Piller was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
* Piller averaged 21.3 points on 74.4 percent shooting in three games last week. She also pulled down 8.6 rebounds and had seven total steals as UWF went 2-1 with road wins over Delta State and West Georgia, and a 3-point loss at Columbus State.
* The sophomore from Nolensville, Tennessee had 14 points against the Lady Statesmen, 26 points on 12-of-15 shooting with 11 rebounds and two steals versus CSU and 24 points, eight boards and four steals in the 28-point win over the Wolves.
* She currently averages 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds on the season. Her 53.3 percent field goal effort is fifth in the GSC and 60th nationally. Her 3.3 offensive boards per game are third in the league and 65th in the NCAA.
TAYLOR LEADS GSC, RANKS 36TH IN NCAA IN ASSIST-TO-TURNOVER RATIO

Moriah Taylor has done a solid job stepping into the point guard spot at UWF since transferring from Georgia State in the offseason. The Hartselle, Ala. native has 27 assists and just seven turnovers in 174 minutes this season. That 3.9 assist-to-turnover ratio is first in the GSC and 22nd in the country. She is also fourth on the team with seven steals.
42ND SEASON OF UWF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
* UWF enters the weekend with 610 all-time wins dating back 40-plus years to the inaugural season of 1981-82. The Argonauts are 610-530 all-time with six NCAA Tournament appearances, one Elite Eight, four GSC Regular-Season Championships and one GSC tourney title in 19 appearances.
* In 29 seasons of NCAA/GSC membership, the program is 434-336 for a .564 winning pct., ranking fifth among current members and third among those that have been in the league for at least 10 seasons.
YELTON IN SEASON 11 AT UWF, CHASING SCHOOL COACHING RECORD

Stephanie Lawrence Yelton is in her 11th season at UWF and has a 171-118 record with the Argos … She is 228-202 in her 16th season as a head coach, which includes five seasons at Charleston Southern … The Morrow, Ga. native (suburb south of Atlanta) is a UNC grad from 1996 and was a 4-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels, where she won two ACC Championships and the 1994 NCAA National Championship – she threw the inbounds pass on Charlotte Smith's game-winning buzzer beater in the 1994 title game.
* Yelton was named the GSC Coach of the Year in 2013-14 and 2018-19.
* She is 4-14 against Union and 9-6 against Christian Brothers.
* Yelton ranks third in the UWF coaching list with her 171 wins. Shannan Bergen won 183 games in 13 seasons from 1999-2012 and the program's first coach, Kathy Davis, collected 175 victories from 1981-94.
UWF PICKED 4TH IN GSC COACHES POLL, JARNOT NAMED PRESEASON ALL-GSC
* UWF was picked to finish fourth in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll … UWF earned 107 poll points and was behind Union, Lee and Valdosta State in the top three spots, respectively. That trio earned 12 of the 13 first place votes. The remaining vote went to Alabama Huntsville despite being picked tenth by the consensus. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and West Alabama were the remaining ones in the upper half, followed in order by Delta State, Montevallo, UAH, West Georgia, Auburn Montgomery and Shorter.

Jaclyn Jarnot was named to the 5-member preseason all-GSC squad. She returns for her final go-around as an Argonaut following a First Team All-GSC and All-Region season a year ago. In 2021-22, the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota native averaged 17.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game, while recording 18 double-doubles in 25 games. Her rebounding avg. and double-double totals were each fifth nationally in Division 2.
ABOUT UNION
* Union comes into the weekend ranked No. 5 in the country with a 5-0 record. The Lady Bulldogs are 4-0 in GSC play, collecting wins over Mississippi College, Delta State, West Georgia and Christian Brothers. They also have a non-conference win over Trevecca Nazarene. This will be the team's first trip away from Tennessee as they played their first four at home before the win over CBU was 85 miles away in Memphis.
* The Lady Bulldogs are averaging 79.4 points per game with a 29 point margin of victory. Union is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor and averaging 11.2 made 3-pointers per contest.
* Four players are averaging over 9.0 points per game, led by senior guard Shanique Lucas at 12.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. She also has 11 assists and 11 steals. None of the players have averaged more than 22 minutes per game and the team plays between 11-13 players on a regular basis.
SERIES HISTORY WITH UU
* Union leads the series 14-4 and 5-2 in games played in Pensacola. They have won the last five games and nine of the last 10. UWF's last win at Union was a 75-67 decision in January 2016.
ABOUT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
* CBU is 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the GSC. The Lady Bucs will not play on Friday and begin their UWF-Valdosta State trip in Pensacola on Sunday before taking on the Lady Blazers on Tuesday.
* The Lady Bucs average 63.7 points per game and are shooting 43.2 percent from the floor. They are not a great outside shooting team, making just 4.6 per game on 26 percent shooting - meaning they are shooting 52 percent from inside the arc. They are fifth in the GSC in FT shooting, making 71 pct.
* Jeremia Montgomery leads the team with 17.1 points per game (3 games of at least 20 points) and is third in the GSC with 57.9 FG pct. Emily Jones is second on the squad with 15.0 ppg, ranking third in the league in FT shooting (87 pct.).

* UWF is 12-7 all-time against CBU, having won eight of the last 11 but are on a 2-game losing skid.
