OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- It was a tough day for the UWF Women's Tennis Team, as they fell to West Alabama 4-0 this morning. After moving players around due to injury, the Argonauts couldn't get the momentum going and fell to the Tigers for their first loss of the season.
In doubles, the Argos put up an excellent fight, but ultimately fell from all three positions.
Irene Recuenco and
Raissa Wagner played from the No. 1 position, but they were unable to top the Tigers falling 1-6 in their match.
Luiza Daud and her partner Saguchi Mayumi put up an excellent effort, but ended up dropping the match 3-6 from the No. 3 position.
Here is what head coach
Derrick Racine had to say about today's match, "It was the first match of the year, we have a lot of work to do. They are a solid team from top to bottom. In singles, we were right in there. We just didn't compete as well as I thought we could."
In the singles matches, the Argonauts once again couldn't muster up enough to come up with the win.
From the No. 1 position,
Sara Yigin fell in a close match 5-5 against Almudena Sanz.
Irene Recuenco dropped her match 4-6, 2-6 in her match from the No. 2 position.
Mayumi Saguchi fell 2-6, 3-5 in her match from the no. 3 position.
In the bottom half of the lineup, Natalie Mossambani dropped her match 4-6, 2-6 from the No. 4 position.
When asked how to keep the girls motivated for the weekend coach
Derrick Racine said, "I've been telling the girls to just go out and compete tomorrow, there's not an easy match. West Alabama is one of the top eight teams in the country, so I feel like we put up a good fight for our first match."
West Florida will be back in action tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. to play either Barry or Flagler on Match 2.
