OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- West Florida suffered their second loss of the spring season to the #9 ranked Flagler College on Sunday. This match was the Argonauts second match of the ITA Indoor Championships as the fifth seed. The Argonauts currently have a 0-2 record to start this young season.
Beginning with doubles, the Argos fell short from all three positions.
Sara Yigin and
Giuliana Sacco teamed up from the No. 1 position, but ended up dropping the match 1-6.
Luiza Daud and
Mayumi Saguchi put up a hard-fought battle from the No. 3 position, but lost the match 4-6.
In the singles matches, the Argonauts couldn't battle through to win the matches.
Sara Yigin played from the No. 1 position with the match going unfinished to Luisa Hrda 4-6, 3-2. From the No. 2 position,
Irene Recuenco kept her match a close one losing the first set 3-6, but was victorious in the second set 5-4. The match ultimately went unfinished. In the final matches,
Mayumi Saguchi dropped a competitive match 0-6, 3-6 from the No. 3 position.
In the bottom half of the lineup,
Raissa Wagner wasn't able to get the Argos back on track as she fell 0-6, 2-6 from the No. 4 position.
Luiza Daud playing from the No. 5 position was unable to get much going today 1-6, 1-6 in her match.
"We had another tough match today. All of the teams in the National Indoor are super tough," stated head coach
Derrick Racine, "We are battling very hard but still coming up a little short. We have a young team at the bottom of our lineup. It's really their first college matches, so this is an excellent learning experience for them."
West Florida will travel to play GSC opponents Montevallo on Saturday, March 5 and West Alabama on Sunday, March 6.
