GSC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF women's basketball team will play host to Delta State in the first round of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Basketball Championship, presented by TicketSmarter on Tuesday night at the UWF Field House. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased for $10 for adults and $3 for youth ages 6-17. The first 100 UWF students will be admitted for free with a valid Nautilus card.
UWF finished the regular-season at 19-7 overall and in fourth place with a 13-6 league record. The Lady Statesmen are 13-12 and 11-9.
The Argonauts won the only meeting this season, 56-52, on January 15 in Pensacola.
The all-time series is tied 14-14 but the Argos have a 10-3 edge in games played in Pensacola. This will be the fifth postseason meeting between the teams and the first since the 2014 GSC title game – a 67-59 UWF victory. DSU won the first three GSC Tourney games prior to 2014.
UWF is making its 19th GSC Tournament appearance this week and has a 12-17 record. The Argos have claimed one title and been runner-up three other times. They have reached the semifinals four times, including three under head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton.
Tuesday's winner will advance to the GSC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. The UWF-DSU winner will face the winner of top seeded Union and eighth-seeded Montevallo. The championship game is set for Sunday at Noon.
