PENSACOLA, Fla.- The No. 17 UWF men's tennis team swept the Rattlers this afternoon, winning the match 7-0 and improving their record to 6-2. The Rattles move to 10-1 on the season.
West Florida came into this match ranked 17
th in the latest ITA Coaches Poll on March 10.
Today's match was another great day for the Argonauts in doubles play. West Florida dominated on the courts winning two out of the three doubles points and all singles points.
Tomas Descarrega and his partner
Facundo Bermejo teamed up from the No. 1 position and cruised to a 6-3 victory to start the Argos off on the right foot.
Pedro Cordeiro and
Bernardo Costa were able to win a close match 7-6 from the No. 3 position.
Juan Cabrera came into the match ranked #32 in the latest singles ITA Poll. He continues to lead the Argos with an undefeated singles record with 8-0. In singles, Cabrera continued the momentum for the Argonauts as he won his match in two straight sets from the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-2.
Facundo Bermejo cruised through his match winning 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 2 position.
Bernardo Costa dominated his match as he won 6-0, 6-3 from the No. 3 position.
Descarrega continued his dominance in singles play today winning 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 4 position. Sebastain Sotelo remains unbeaten in singles winning his match 6-3, 6-1.
Salvador Bandeira, in one of the top matches of the day, fought back after a second set deficit, but won the third set to secure the win for the Argonauts.
Up Next: The Argonauts will be back for their fourth match at home this week against the Georgia College Bobcats on Sunday, March 13 at 1 PM.
