COLUMBUS, Ga.- In their second match of the weekend, the West Florida Women's Tennis Team faced off against the No. 8 Columbus State. The Argonauts couldn't pull it together to outperform the Cougars, falling short 6-1. This moves the Argos to an 8-7 record on the season heading into next weekend's matches against Gulf South Conference opponents.
In doubles play, West Florida dropped from all three positions against a tough Columbus State team, but not without a fight.
Karolina Silwanowicz and Guiliana Sacco teamed up as the No. 1 pairing, dropping their match 3-6.
Sara Yigin and
Mayumi Saguchi put up a strong fight, but ended up falling 2-6 from the No. 2 position.
Irene Recuenco and
Raissa Wagner's match went unfinished due to the Cougars securing the lone point in doubles.
In singles play, the Argonauts couldn't get the momentum going as they fell from five positions, but they made it difficult for the Cougars to win the match.
Yigin came in from the No. 1 position falling to Neila Trklja 1-6 ,1-6. Saguchi also fell from the No. 3 position 1-6, 4-6, but not without a fight to try to secure the point for the Argos.
In a ranked showdown, 43
rd ranked Recuenco found a way to win from the No. 2 position, dominating her match against the 73
rd ranked player Mariana Ramirez 6-3, 6-1. Recuenco improves to 8-5 in singles on the season.
The Cougars collected wins from the bottom half of the lineup. Silwanowicz fought hard from the No. 4 position, but fell 3-6, 2-6. Wagner's match was decided by a tiebreaker, she ended up dropping the match 2-6, 6-7, 0-3 from the No. 5 position.
Luiza Daud came in from the No. 6 position, losing the first set 4-6, winning the second 6-3, and falling just short in a tiebreaker 5-10.

Derrick Racine said, "Our women's team lost today, but they played great. They are continuing to improve and look better every match they play."
The Argonauts will be back in action next weekend at home to face Gulf South Conference opponents Christian Brothers on Saturday and a double header on Sunday against West Georgia and Mississippi College.
