MONTEVALLO, Ala.- The #6 West Florida Men's Tennis Team remains undefeated after the Argonauts defeated Montevallo on Saturday. West Florida improves to 2-0 conference record and 3-2 overall record.
The Argos started off strong and claimed all three doubles points. "We won all three doubles in the men's match. We got up an early break of serve and we're able to maintain the lead," said head coach Derrick Racine.
Tomas Descarrega and Facundo Bermejo won their match 6-3 from the No. 1 position.
Salvador Bandiera and teammate Albin Ekenros were victorious from the No. 2 position winning 6-3. Bernardo Costa and Pedro Cordiero finished out the doubles points winning their match 6-1.
Heading into singles, Juan Cabrera took the first single points winning 6-2, 6-2 from the No. 1 position. Facundo Bermejo defeated Philippe Zehender 6-1, 7-5 from the No. 2 position. From the No. 3 position, Bernardo Costa won his match 6-4, 6-3.
In the bottom of the lineup, Tomas Descarrega defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 4 position. Sebastian Sotelo won his match 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 5 position. Salvador Bandiera rounded out the lineup from the No. 6 position winning his match in an intense rally between both players that led into a tiebreaker 7-5, 6-7, 10-4. The Argos secured all of singles points to ensure the victory over the Falcons.
"All the singles were great matches and neither team managed to close out the close ones. It was a great match for the Argos and should give us some momentum going into tomorrow's match at West Alabama," said Racine.
The Argos will be back action for more GSC play against West Alabama on Sunday at 10 AM.
